Owner description: The Defence of Darwin Experience is managed by Darwin Military Museum on behalf of the Northern Territory Government. It was established to tell a story of Darwin's role in World War II and is dedicated to the period 1932 to 1945 - a very important time in Territory history. The Defence of Darwin Experience opened on 18 February 2012, which was in time to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin. Defence of Darwin Experience is the first facility in Australia to provide visitor with an immersive, interactive, multimedia experience which extends beyond the physical walls of the precinct 'hub'. The Defence of Darwin Experience is fully airconditioned inlcuding a gift shop and cafe. The Darwin Military Museum is only a step outside of the Defence of Darwin Experience, providing visitors with a different experience: artillery pieces; vehicles, uniforms, firearms, models and paintings and much more. The Darwin Military Museum is the original military museum which was established from the 1960s by the Royal Australian Association of the Northern Territory. The Darwin Military Museum is continuing to expand by adding more exhibitions to further educate visitors of Northern Australia involvement in WWII. Defence of Darwin Experience and Darwin Military Museum has formed a large World War II precinct at East Point. Visitors can move through the precinct and view the displays and exhibitions offered by both facilities.

“An absolute must!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2012

The recently opened Museum for the bombing of Darwin is an excellent blend of significant artefacts and inter active displays. Most visitors are unaware that more bombs fell on Darwin than Pearl Harbour. The Territory was actually bombed 68 times in WW2. The bombing of Darwin display is excellent, wait for the sirens and you'll know it's on. Don't forget to tour the gun emplacements and bunkers.

One problem is the 14 dollar admission it's a bit steep.

“Much improved”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2012

The Military Museum has added a much needed interactive display on the bombing of Dawin plas a theatrette running a continuous movie on the bombing. The building itself is air conditioned with toilets, cafe and gift shop. A huge improvement and well done. There is an admission fee.

“brand new interactive museum opened Sat 18/2”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2012

Staff were very helpful, even though busy due to all the veterans and family members visiting. I found a photo of my mother, yay, and also lots of photos of my dads unit. Plus the Darwin Bombing docu is truly brilliant and so well done. Everyone should visit.
The guys will also love all the machinery etc in the back outside section.
