“Not what I had expected”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2014

I recently had a one night stay at the Poinciana Inn, Darwin. I chose to stay there after seeing it on the internet as it was a good location and seemed to be quite nice from what I could see from the website photos. How wrong I was! On arrival, the "reception" area stank of stale cigarettes, my room (for a single female) was on the ground floor with a view of the dingy carpark which seemed to be a gathering place for the resident smokers who were loud and intimidating, the room was awful, the lampshades above the bed tatty and broken, the sheets were thin and grey they were so old, the bar fridge was iced over, no phone, no clock, no handset for the television so I couldn't change the channel or turn the volume down and the tiny bathroom was gross with mould throughout the shower. There was no possibility of breakfast - no restaurant or basic room service. The chap at reception was courteous but didn't show me to my room - for good reason no doubt! Never ever would I stay there again!

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

Was a good hotel for the price but new owners have increased price whilst lowering standards would not recommend as can be very noisy and standard of clientele is questionable so fear for safety of goods in hotel and would not stay there with wife and children although rooms are clean.

Stayed at the hotel in December for a 7 days. During my staff the staff where friendly and very helpful. The hotel has had an upgrade since my last visit with all new tiles around the pool different parts of the hotel have been painted. The outdoor area around the pool looks amazing and is an inviting place to sit by the pool in the later part of the afternoon. Very kid friendly environment. The rooms are old and dated but the new owners have taken this on-board and from my understand renovations have started on the first floor. Jason was very helpful and happy to stop for a chat. Nothing was to much of a drama. The people above us where a little noisy but Jason attended to that in a quickly and timely manner. The parking on site is limited but there is heaps out the front. My arrival was at 1am in the morning my key was available in the safe and was easy for me to work out where to go. I would stay here again and high recommend this hotel. The changes to the hotel are a real credit to the new manager Jason.

Room Tip: Go for a room at the back of the motel away from the main street , The front can be a little noisy f...

Stayed here for one night aircon took all night to cool room. People rummaging around outside all night scanning ash trays for used cigarettes. Was cheap so don't expect too much. Spend a little bit more for a better nights sleep and a secure car park.

Like all the place in Australoa is expensive! Room very average all amenities coffee makers, microwave,tv, iron and boarding. Pool is. Very small, laundry is available, a kitchen is open to use it. When you arrive late the key is on safe box but nobody told me in advance so when I got there and I couldn't call because I didn't have a phone I went to the panic, fortunately the restaurant beside made me call and I called and they expleined me the way how to get the key! Not a nice welcome! So di is ridiculous just couple of minutes I fact I needed to buy!! Average

This was my second stay in 2 years - nothing much has changed. Very old and dated but clean and the location ideal. Easy walk to pubs in Mitchell street, but beware this motel has very limited off street parking, so if you park on the street in front of the motel make sure you have money in the meter by 8.00 am. Can get very noisy and I do not think I would stay again.

Room Tip: I would suggest top floor on the pool side which are a lot quieter.

Stayed there in early November for four days and had no problems at all.
Sure it needs a bit of an upgrade which is slowly being worked on but the accom was clean, secure, is very close to everything in town (easy stroll) and the salt water pool is great!
Great value for money paid.
Jason the manager was very easy to deal with and helped us out with everything we needed.
Cheers,
