We find hop on and hop off buses a really good way of getting to know a city. The driver / guide was highly informative and really cared about our comfort and enjoyment. Our trip began in sunshine but after a while those of us on the top deck were forced to descend as, despite umbrellas, the rainstorm was spectacularly soaking. The driver brought to our attention birds rarely seen either in that area or during the day, whose normal habits had been changed by the weather and he made sure that he kept our tour interesting, despite the weather. Although very wet, we knew a great deal more about Darwin and the surrounding area than if we had decided to stay dry and miss it!

After the good trips I had with AAT Kings in Uluru I decide to give them a try again in Darwin. I was not disappointed at all and all was again very well arranged. Some rescheduling was needed after the cyclone warning and cancelled trips but all was done in a proper way with good information and a pro-active approach. I ended up doing 2 trips instead of 3 and really enjoyed both of them. Litchfield is an easy day trip with some good and scenery spots for swimming. It was a rainy day, but that only made the waterfalls looking better! Kakadu was a very long trip but it is well worth the long drive; it has a good combination of activities with some walking, river cruise and an optional scenic flight; it was all nice and if you have only 1 day to visit this park the flight of 1 hour is highly recommend as it gives great views! Can highly recommend this company: they are reliable with good, friendly and informative guides; all you need to have an enjoyable trip!

I have become a hop -on bus fan from travels in many different countries. It is a good way to find your way around when you first arrive in a city. The price is reasonable for a 24 hour ticket and in Darwin the bus route does not disappoint as it covers most of the major attractions. We always do one full circuit to determine the attractions we want to visit, then choose which ones we wish to visit.

When we go on a trip, I find that the best method of getting to know you're new city quickly is by a local, reputable and comfortable tour bus on the first day of your stay. This then allows you see the things YOU consider worth spending more time on at your leisure. This was the case in Darwin. We booked on the AAT Kings tour air-conditioned bus with a very well informed and pleasant driver.Amongst the many great area's that we visited, the highlight for my partner was the the Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, in particular the display depicting Cyclone Tracey that devastated Darwin in 1974 and excellent Aboriginal, Southeast Asian and Oceanic art. For me the car restoration museum topped of the four hour tour. They ask for a "Gold coin" donation to enter. The enclosed photo shows a restored 1952 Riley.
Returning to our hotel after the four hour tour we then decided which areas to re-visit for a further and more in depth look.
All in all, excellent value.

My wife and I took a day tour to Kakadu (Tour DDT1) which included a cruise on Yellow Waters wetland area. Direct, on-line booking with Darwin Day Tours was very easy and efficient. It was a long day (pick-up at Darwin hotel at 6.30 am and dropped off at 8.30 pm) but there was so much to see and do the question of time was irrelevant. Everything went very smoothly. The tour guide was Rob who had a support driver in Kyle. Rob gave excellent commentary throughout the whole day and is clearly not only keenly interested in the whole of the Kakadu area but is also very knowledgeable on the NT history and current developments. Everyone to their own interests and tastes but the highlight for me was the Yellow Waters wetland cruise - the amount of wildlife was tremendous, particularly the bird life. Being on the boat gave the opportunity to get up real close to sunbathing crocodiles and other wildlife. Also had a close up viewing of a cormorant trying to swallow a large catfish that it had caught (end result: catfish 1 - cormorant 0). Interesting viewing of aboriginal rock painting and the Warradjan Cultural Centre. A very generous lunch topped off a great day out. Recommended.
