Sue and Sean were extremely attentive without being intrusive. They went out of their way to make our stay as easy and enjoyable as possible. The location is very relaxing and only a short distance from town, though having your own vehicle is necessary. This place is great value for money when compared to options in Darwin and is a much nicer, more homely experience. The breakfast included a lovely fruit platter, cereal, toast, pastries, tea and coffee and enough to more than satisfy even our large appetites! A relaxed place to stay - can whole-heartedly recommend to all.

Room Tip: We stayed in the en-suite room, which felt very private with its own access and patio area but also...

The wife and I recently stayed at Grugle Downs for a 4 night get away. Best place to stay in Darwin if you want to be a short easy drive away from the expensive concrete city hotels. The accomodation is on a large property with that tropical feel, great swimming pool and BBQ for guests to use. There is a private cottage and also rooms in the house. We stayed in the house which was clean and comfortable. Green Tree Frogs in the toilet come free too! A tropical breakfast was included with the portion big enough to keep us munching all day. As soon as we arrived the owners were there to greet us and to explain everything. Nothing was too much trouble (we were told off for buying our own mozzie repellant, we only had to ask), that's the sort of place you would be staying at. We loved it!

Room Tip: The cottage is probably the best way to go, but the rooms in the house are fine.

I enjoyed a short stay at Grungle Downs and I would highly recommend it for its homely feel, beautiful surroundings and very comfortable accomodation. The owners were very helpful and friendly and I felt instantly at ease. Great for families and couples alike. Very central to all Darwins attractions.

There has been a change of ownership (mid July). The new owners, Jennifer, Sue and Sean, are keen and very considerate. They acknowledge that they are still "finding their feet" and there are some glitches to be sorted out. Give them time and Grungle Downs will hopefully deserve the high reputation it has enjoyed in the past.

In the meantime, it's a top spot - an easy 20 minute drive into town - pool is very welcome, nice outdoor eating area as well as the indoor portion. Peacocks wandering around the property squawk now and then but entertaining all the same.

They have a nice bbq and you can't go by fresh barramundi (try Mr Barra at the fish market) and a cold white wine.

My wife and I went to Darwin for a holiday with her sister and husband. We picked Grungle Downs on the recommendations from this website. The ratings were spot on. We stayed in the lodge and were treated like family. Christie and Paul made such wonderful suggestions on things to see and do in Darwin that we changed our plans, for the better we felt.

The grounds were awesome and the poolside very relaxing. My sister-in-law called it a vortex of peace and tranquility. The beds were very comfortable and all the facilities very clean. Christie kept the fridge stocked with wonderful fresh fruit and other foods.

We only stayed four days in Darwin on a whirlwind tour of Australia for the in-laws, but wish we would have stayed much longer there and cut out some of the other places we went.

Christie and Paul know how to make you feel at home.

Room Tip: The lodge rooms were very comfortable

A super little place to enjoy Darwin. Excellent location (quite a way out of town but worth it for the wildlife and serenity, swimming pool and gardens), spotless and great rooms.
Super hosts, eager for their guests to enjoy the place and very welcoming.
It would have changed hands since we visited, but I wish the new owners well in continuing to run a super B and B.

A stay a Grungle Downs Tropical Bed and Breakfast will not disappoint. We stayed in the cottage on Grungle's 5 acres for 10 days. The owners Christie and Paul are not only welcoming and helpful I am now proud to call them friends. The cottage itself is air conditioned, spacious, comfortable and has all the amenities needed for either a nights stay or however long you need to stay. There is a lovely cool pool to take refuge in during the Darwin Heat. The location is next to crocodilus park and a short drive to the largest shopping complex in Darwin. I would not hesitate to recommend Grungle Downs to my family and friends. A great stay
