My first time to Darwin (quite possibly my last, I really can't cope with the heat - November), the owners/operators are the most fabulous people, nothing is too much trouble. Spotlessly clean roomy room, AC and a fan, comfy QS bed, good blockout drapes, flat screen telly, bar fridge, spacious WR, balcony with outdoor setting which just serves to make you appreciate the AC. Ask for a pool towel and you get a terry towelling blanket, great pool/barbecue area with shade. It's a very short walk to the Parap Tavern - reasonably priced meals/bottleshop, the Raging Bull Steakhouse (10% off when you show your room key). The other corner has a nice little general store and the shopping centre past the Tavern on Parap Road on your right is also a market on the weekend. The bus stop is a short walk (to your left) up Stoke St also and only $2 to go to Darwin (10 mins) and a good walk if you can cope with the heat - I recommend a parasol. A taxi is about $10 to the CBD where there are lots of good pubs and restaurants. The Paravista is an oasis just out of the Darwin city area with the most easy going, helpful, hospitable people on earth. The rooms are serviced unless you put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door handle. And they Do Not Disturb. It was and truly worth the money; I would recommend this place to anyone travelling to Darwin, its true value for money.
PS We happened to be out the balcony on a hot night during a close thunder storm and were treated to a spectacular lightning show for ages.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the rear carpark are good, nice greenery and no people traffic.

We got here a little later than expected as the Ghan train was late arriving. We picked up a pizza in town before getting a taxi to the hotel. As promised we found the envelope with keys and instructions to our room. So far so good.
Lit only by bright white striplights the room was rather unwelcoming. We put the pizza on a desk (still in its box) and in a few minutes the box was attacked by hundreds of small insects coming across the desk. We disposed of the pizza (not in the room) and prepared for bed. We then found that the pillows were also covered by hundreds of tiny insects as well. They seemed to be coming out of the furnishings but we never really found the source. If it had been any earlier in the evening we would have left and found somewhere else to stay. We pulled the bed away from the wall, swept the insects off the pillows and managed to sleep.
When we related this to the owner the following morning we expected that he might at least inspect the room but no. He gave us some fly spray expecting us to get on with it. At least that seemed to do the trick.
On a more positive note the advice we were given by the owner about where to shop, eat, visit and hire a car was good. The pool was also pleasant and clean. The bed linen was nice and the bed comfortable. However the room lighting was dreadful with striplights intended for ceiling mounting placed horizontally above the headboard (see photo). What is wrong with a couple of table lamps? In fact the whole electrical installation looked very ugly with surface wiring everywhere and the fire alarm hanging from the ceiling (see photo).
I see from the owners photos that there are some better looking rooms in the hotel. Pity we didn't get one of those.
The free wi-fi worked well enough (although occasionally it all stops and you need to contact the owner to re-initialise the router).
The reception is open for limited hours (and less that it says on the notice) but as the owners live next door they are contactable by phone and respond quickly. Although the guide says "in emergency only" they seemed to expect customers to use it at any time the reception is unattended.
This is one of the cheaper hotels in Darwin (although rather pricey to a foreigner) and I have judged it as such. With a bit of cosmetic and electrical work on the rooms and some insect treatment I might have rated this as 4 stars but with these downsides I can only give it 3.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the refurbished ones.

Denis and Tenielle must be the most patient, tolerant, forgiving people on earth. I've been emailing them from Hobart for weeks arranging a trip to catch up with children and my new first grand daughter and they've bent over backwards to help me. I finally get here after again changing my plans and the friendliest welcome from the weekend manager (he even took my bag up to my room). I've walked into the cleanest room (fan on - I've already melted twice, having come from Hobart), I have a very clean, roomy room with a balcony overlooking tropical ferns, and there's a pool and barbecue area. My other son is coming over from Melbourne and they were more than happy to accommodate him - as a non paying guest until I arrived. Our first visit to the very warm and welcoming Darwin will not be forgotten, thanks to them.

Room Tip: Bring your togs, you'll want to utilise the pool.

This is my third stay at the Paravista, it si propably the best value for money in Darwin. The rooms are great and the staff are beyond reproach. The Motel is run by a husband and wife team who are helpful, kind and just good people. I would reccomend this motel to all travellers who want comfort and convenience, without having to pay big city prices.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good but if you have a special request just ask Dennise or Tonille the managers th...

Our room was spacious with a nice balcony. The bed was more comfortable than many of those in a far more expensive property. Everything was squeaky-clean. The staff were obliging and friendly. This property is within easy walking distance of a few really good restaurants, and it's rather nice to stay in a more suburban area for a change. The bus transport is quick and cheap into Darwin city.
Don't expect anything fancy; this hotel was built in 1974 and I'd say some of the fittings and decor haven't changed since then.
But we'd certainly go back.

Room Tip: Rooms in the higher floors (there are only 4 floors) are quieter because they don't front on to...

Air conditioned stair well so not so bad lugging cases up to 3rd floor (not 4 floors + ground). Room 18 good as it faces away from morning sun so cooler when wake up. TV, fridge, air conditioning quite and fan available. Room very clean. Bed comfy. Not far drive from anyways. Can walk to Mindil beach but better to drive due to humidity. Coles in Mitchell st to stock up on water and stuff. There is a kitchen next to room 18 but didn't use it. No noise from kitchen though. Excellent lighting next to desk if you need to do work. Good Telstra 4G coverage. Parking a breeze and safe. Great views from top floor. Services daily. Water cooler in lobby. Hosts friendly (and good lookin :) Suggested where to park if Mindil beach full - on side road near golf course. Do visit Ski Club for dinner - sign in green book as visitor. Scotch fillets to die for and best water sunset views in Darwin. Outdoor restaurant. Just a short drive away (can also walk).

Room Tip: Ask for Room 18 on corner and as faces away from hot morning sun and allows you to sit on the balcon...

Our family of 3 adults shared a room here in late August. It is a very dated motel - dark with small rooms and badly in need of a bit of love and attention. (e.g.grimy looking brown shower curtain) Staff helpful when directly addressed, but seemed disinterested.
I would not stay there again.

Room Tip: request balcony? And there is no lift so ground floor.
