“Oasis in the desert”

It was good to have a cold beer in a pub setting in the outback. Food & service is great, drinks very expensive.

“Prices Competitive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

We enjoyed the casual atmosphere of the bar. At first we were thinking the prices would be really high, but they didn't seem any higher that what we saw in Sydney. We were relieved. The food was of good quality and it is nice to eat outside at night.

“Decent Aussie pub food but avoid in the extreme heat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2012

This place does Aussie pub food which you put on the BBQ yourself, with pretty good salad & dessert buffet selection. It's actually one of the cheaper ways to eat at Yulara, except for supermarket options of course. They have a wide range of meats for the outback tourists that people wouldn't normally eat that much like roo, emu, crocodile etc.

However, avoid this place in the extreme heat - we went there in the late afternoon when temperatures got up to 42°C that day ... we managed to tolerate that, but it was too much to take amongst a bunch of BBQs and the cooking utensils were too hot to touch. Also, avoid the fish ... it was a very small portion and in hindsight, it's not like there is an ocean or body of water nearby ... :-)

“For variety in eating, try Pioneer”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

There's almost no choice of places to eat at Ayre's Rock and the prices are all very high. However, Pioneer at least gave you a different experience of cooking your own meat main course. My steak was not very good - very tough. There is a little buffet of side dishes, which are okay.
