kings Canyon is an amazing natural phenomenon in the middle of Australia. On a clear day, the canyon sticks out of the earth and is distinctive enough to be seen from Uluru. The early morning walk around the rim of the canyon is a fantastic and humbling experience is it brings home how ancient this land truly is. The Kings Canyon resport was a fabulous place to base ourselves as we toured the canyon and other sites such as Ormiston Gorge and Tnorala (site of comet hitting the earth millions of years ago). The rooms were truly luxurious and just what was needed after a day in the desert. The service was prompt and friendly and the food was great. The staff were also knowledgable about the area and could make recommendations about things to see plus explain all the natural phenomena inlcuding wildlife. I would recommend anybody to stay here.

We've only just gotten back from from the NT. To be honest majority of the negative reviews I read here made me think twice about staying the two nights.
We actually got a good deal to start off with through the net 2 nights for $260 in a standard room but got upgraded upon arrival which was a bonus.
I'm actually glad we had decided staying the two nights as our stay was a great experience...

I'd called a few days before our arrival as it was our anniversary and my husbands 30th and wanted to make it a little more memorable. Upon arrival my husband was greeted with a happy birthday and we were upgraded to the spa room. It had a great view and our 23 month old enjoyed it as much as we did.

Breakfast buffet is a little steep ($30) and in my opinion should be half price for what was available...

There is the pub only walking distance away the pizzas compared to Melb prices are high you could basically get 2 large pizza delivered for the price of one. Oh they only have one size as well (small). Another thing garden salad is $12 or $13 a bowl.
Although the prices are steep the pizza was good but I could not justify paying that much for the salad.

Overall the rooms were good, staff was friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our experience...

We had booked one night in this resort through the YHA website. Because we have stayed in several other hostels in Australia, we did not expect any problem with this "resort". However, when we arrived we received the key to a room that was so dirty that we immediately decided we could not sleep there.

We contacted the reception to ask for a cleaner room and were even willing to pay for this, because we had a long drive from Alice Springs that day. The answer was that they were short on cleaning staff... We left the resort, did not ask for a refund because we were happy that we found an alternative in Yulara (another 300km).

I know what basic accomodation looks like. However, this was not basic but dirty. The aircon was full of dust, the sheets on the bed looked like they had not been cleaned for months and the room had a terrible smell. Outdoors was an ashtrey that was so full that there were even butts on the table.

If you can, than stay away from this place.

Stayed for one as part of a 3 day tour around Ayres Rock, Olgas and Kings Canyon. Did not have a choice of place to stay but there was options of type of room we stayed in. The room was quite large with a balcony at the rear that didnt have any spectular view but rather juts of scrub land. Found the restuarants very overpriced and lack of choice so didnt eat in them intead went to the small garage/shop (equally overpriced but considering you are in the middle of nowhere this is expected) and bought some snacks and took it back to the room. Went to the sunset veiwing platform to watch suncet over the Canyon which was nice and saw dingo! Not really much to do here ecxpet go to Kings Canyon which is of course the reason people come. You do feel to an extent that you are held hostage in the hotel as you wouldnt stay here for any other reason.
Kings Canyon however is worth the trip - simply amazing and much better than Ayres Rock. We got up very early to do the 3 hour walk around the rim (took us abit less than 3 hours at a low pace as were with a group of mixed fitness walkers) This is really worth the effort and a highlight of the trip. Although a good day long drive from Alice Springs this is a real must visit

The only resort in close prox. to the National Park Entrance (approx. 10 min by car/bus) which made the 4am Canyon Rim Walk in easy reach. The Resort is over priced and service standards poor. Food options limited with Restaurant prices 20-30% above average.

Lots of bird life in the trees around the resort buildings, the occasional dingo padding through the grounds, marvelous views of the outback and the mountains from either the boardwalk or the rim trail. Excellent service from both the Reception and the bar staff.
Yeah, I know, I'm avoiding talking about the extravagant cost of the mediocre rooms. But, what a setting!

Yes, that's right, because it's the only place to stay.

We camped in our van and paid too much.

Check-in was easy, pleasant and efficient.

When we approached staff for another reason, we were told - I can't even remember why - to move our van. Hello, German woman on Reception, pull your head out of your a*** and learn to speak politely. (We didn't move the van, and there wasn't a problem as the campgound was EMPTY apart from us.)

The toilets/shower block were a mess, the pool was so dirty we didn't swim in in . Must have been the tour group before us, who used the pool, weed in it, and left. The water tasted of pee. Gross!!

I wouldn't stay again.
