Don't be fooled by the name. It's a resort in terms of spread out bungalow style accommodation. It does not have lots of attractions within the facility.
We travelled the "back route" to get there - from Alice Springs to Hemansburg and then via the Meneerie Loop. Note that you need a permit for this road (available at Hemansburg's freindly Petrol station/general store). However this is no road for the faint hearted. From Hermansbug it is mostly gravel and was quite corrugated most of the way. It's not a road for the inexperienced driver and needs a reliable vehicle (4WD preferably) and is very isolated and can be extremely hot -we saw ~3 other cars in 300 km. So carry lots of water and be prepared to pay dearly for fuel $2.33 per litre.
The resort has quite nice rooms which were spacious, quite well appointed and clean. The outdoor balcony could use an extra couple of chairs as we had a family unit.
Pool wasn't much but thats not what we went for. Eating options are severely limited - only place was the Tavern. Food was OK but don't expect anything fancy.
Staff were all friendly and helpful though the breakfast waiter still seemed half asleep (maybe hungover).
Don't know if they have busy and low seasons but there weren't many people there when we visited. There was a big restaurant near the pool but it wasn't open - does it ever open?

Room Tip: Rooms near the pool can be quite a walk from the carpark. We had a rom with spa which was great.

We stayed for one night on the camping site of this resort. We had booked the "luxurious" tents which means we had wooden floors and an actual bed in the tent. That was ok and we had a good night's sleep. The toilets and showers were in a pre-fab construction and looked a bit poor. But every worked ok. Unfortunately there were no lights on our spot so you had to walk to the toilet in the middle of the night in pitch black darkness.

im a bit late leaving this review as i visited in December 2012.
This place was one of those places that im sure was once nice but has been neglected and has become run down and is in need of some serious TLC. it was very dirty - the balcony chairs were black with dirt, it was almost imposible to get food - althoguh they advertised a 'grocery shop' - its a petrol station and didnt have a single meal in it (lucky to get a bag of crisps), the resturants were all closed down and the price was throguh the roof. Kings canyon was worth the visit but this hotel was not.

Cute, small campsite. Quite a lot of folk take a day trip from Uluru to Kings Canyon so most travellers here are a bit more intrepid.

A few pieces of advice - Larapinta Road between Kings Canyon and Alice Springs is "unsealed" for 197km. It was a scary drive! I would not recommend this drive unless you are in a 4WD. The alternative is to go a longer route but on much safer roads. You are suppposed to pick up a national park permit in Hermannsburg on route, however when we got there at 4:10pm the supermarket and gas station were closed. We would not have had a problem buying a permit, there was just no-where to buy one.

If you are taking the Larapinta route, I would suggest timing it so that you can arrive at Hermannsburg before 4pm to top up on petrol. We missed the petrol station, then the unsealed road basically burned through our petrol. By the time we arrived at Kings Canyon Resort, our warning sign for fuel had come on. Also remember that there is no cell phone reception out there, so if you break down / run out of fuel then you are really stuck. A real outback experience.

By getting to Hermannsburg before 4pm, you should also get to Kings Canyon Resort before 7pm which is when it's gas station shuts. We missed the gas station by ten minutes, which was really annoying. It meant we had to wait until it opened at 7am before we had enough gas to go to do Kings Canyon Rim Walk.

Lots to take into consideration when planning this trip, but definitely a true outback experience!!!

We visited Australia in November 2013 and included Kings Canyon a part of our holiday. To say I was disappointed is to put it mildly. The pool area was the biggest disappointment. There were never any towels and if there had been they were stored in a metal cabinet which, in temperatures in the 30's, meant it was exceedingly difficult to open the cabinet as it had a metal handle!! The pool was rather dirty and the beds were in a bad state of repair.

The staff were helpful but I noticed that the water used to mop the rooms was absolutely filthy.

It is such a shame as the experience could have been something to treasure as part of an adventure travelling through Australia. The hotel is in desperate need of TLC.

I absolutely loved the Kings Canyon hike. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly and she seemed genuinely interested in what she was telling us. We even learned that you could rub the trees and then use the white powder like a sunblock. Amazing. The walk wasn't too physically demanding and it was well worth it. The resort itself is very basic, if possible bring your own snacks etc. We didn't realize how remote this place was and as a result were somewhat unprepared. We could buy most of what we would need from the store near by- but it certainly comes at a cost. The outback bbq was fantastic. I was able to try kangaroo for the first time, while my friend had the steak. Both were cooked beautifully and very tasty. The meals are large and we barely finished them. The room was very basic, but that's all we needed. We were here for the experience, and the hike.. Not to stay at a five star hotel. Hopefully some day we'll be back.

Due to high occupancy (surely the result of being the only option in the area), we had to upgrade to a superior room. This gets you a spa tub that overlooks some rocks. Definitely not worth the extra cost.

The room itself smelled like sulphur, which they warn you comes from the water. Everything was really old in the room. The hot water pot was so caked with who-knows-what I didn't touch it. The alarm clock wasn't plugged in, so when I bent down to plug it in, I discovered all sorts of nasty smutz on the floor. Clearly, vacuuming only hits the most obvious spaces, ie the main floor area. Similarly, there was all kinds of dust and hair behind the bathroom door. Ick.

We had no choice for dinner; just the one restaurant. All options cost around $30, just for the main meal, no drinks, etc. included. This is ridiculous in a cinderblock restaurant where you have to stand in line to order your food at the register. It also had no air conditioning (or fans) and was beastly hot with flies buzzing all over the food (one actually suffered its death throes on our table).

The wifi costs $10 an hour and is only available in reception. Or so we were told; it wasn't working during our stay.

The view over the mountains is pretty at sunset, but that's the only really good part. That and its proximity to Kings Canyon, which is the only reason you'd ever be there in the first place.

Thank you for the review and feedback.

I personally apologize for the housekeeping deficiencies you encountered, that is unacceptable. We must though respectfully disagree with you assessment of our Deluxe Spa Rooms, they do boast a full size spa and private balcony. The outlook is overlooking a natural red ochre rock ridge. The vegetation is the stark, but iconic outback Australian desert scrub with rich red earth.

Our remote location does bring some logistical and cost challenges and I can assure you that we strive to keep our prices to a minimum at all times.

Best regards
