“Almost perfect, but”
Reviewed February 27, 2009

We spent 3 nights at Lasseters. You would need a car or be fit enough to use one of the free bikes. It is about 2 kms from the town centre. It does not have any lounge facility as such as it includes a casino. The men toilets attached to the main restaurant/bar have a large one way window looking into the bar so that the men can see into the bar while using the facility. Very unusual. We were disappointed to find loud rock teenage music playing loudly while we were having breakfast. Not appropriate at a 4.5 star hotel. Otherwise the rooms are great really nice pool. The best restaurant in Alice Springs is in the hotel next door, Crowne. I would go back to Lasseters.

Just stayed overnight after the bus trip via Kings Canyon from Ayers Rock (it's a long way on a bus!).

The hotel room was very nice with plenty of room for three adults. The restaurant is very open and when we arrived at 8.45pm, that restaurant said they weren't serving anymore - despite the info saying they kept going till 10. Behind the bar were a couple of oiks who didn't seem to know what they were doing.

The one issue that visitors need to be aware of at this time of year is that the one format leads to hundreds of bugs to be attracted by the lights, some the size of Chinooks. Moving indoors wasn't too nice with lots of debris and smoking - so be aware.

We were pleased with our 3-night stay at Lasseters. Check-in was friendly and the room very well furnished and spacious. The hotel is low-rise with only ground floor and first floor rooms, all with either a patio or balcony and most with views across the Macdonnell Ranges. Good range of toiletries and quality tea/coffee selection. Fridge came in handy as well, after emptying out the mini-bar options.

The casino/restaurant areas are reasonably modern, although smoking is allowed in some of the gaming areas. Of the dining options, we only tried the snacky Casbah (cheap and cheerful) and drinks at the Juicy Rump, which has a lovely outdoor deck with views over the Ranges. The upmarket restaurant has a good special on Fri/Sat nights, a 2-for-1 all you can eat seafood buffet for $37. Suffice to say we failed to book early enough and so didn't get to enjoy this offer. If you're into your seafood, book for this when you check in.

Although the location is slightly out of town, the walk into town is not particularly long (15-20mins easy strolling) and quite pleasant along the "banks" of the Todd River. Along the way, you come across the Olive Pink botanical gardens, well worth a look and has a small hill climb for good views out over the Alice. The same track into town is also for bikes so grab your free bike hire for that... and even extend out to Simpsons Gap for an awesome 20-odd kilometre ride out there (almost all flat).

As a good alternative to eating at the resort itself or in town, you can't go past the Hanuman Thai/Indian just a few metres away at the nearby Crowne Plaza complex. Great food, lovely setting and well priced. See review of that restaurant elsewhere on TripAdvisor.

Booking direct on the hotel's website seems to be the way to go - the "Lasseter Special" includes two $5 gaming vouchers, two drinks vouchers and free bike hire, we got this for $120/night which is very reasonable I think. To make the most of the deal, make individual bookings for each night of your stay then you get the bonuses each and every night, otherwise you only get your two freebies for the whole booking.

In summary, a good option for Alice Springs unless you want to be right in the heart of town or you have issues with the casino nature of the place.

We've just got back from a short stay at Lasseters in Alice Springs and found it met all our expectations without being anything spectacular.
We were there for 3 nights and had no complaints, the room was fresh and modern with plenty of room, LCD TV, airy with plenty of light and great air-con if you wanted it. The staff were helpful although a few smiles wouldn't have gone astray.
As a few people have said it is a bit far from the centre of town, about 3km. This is about a $10 taxi fare if you don't have a car, but we found the complimentary bikes were generally available and this was a great way of getting around town.
The food was fantastic, the only problem being that one of the 2 restaraunts was closed for renovations which limited our options a bit, but that should be fixed shortly.
I would recomend this hotel to almost anyone (probably not for a honeymoon though), as it is good value and having the casino onsite is an added bonus.

The first thing to note about Lasseters is it is removed from the city centre; you would really want to have a vehicle or risk a rather lengthy (and hot) walk. Don't book this thinking you can just stroll in to town for a meal because you really can't unless you're quite fit...and eager!

We stayed in a deluxe room with two queen size beds, small balcony (with table and 2 chairs) overlooking the ranges and a separate bathroom with walk-in shower and bath. The room was quite lovely; modern furnishings and crisp white linen. Lots of natural light from the wall to wall window/sliding door -it was in stark contrast to our other accomodation in Alice Springs. There was a small desk, usual tea/coffee facilities. The worst thing about the room was the television - no flat screen, no LCD, no plasma! Standard old fashioned TV that had terrible reception and was unwatchable due to static & noise.

We arrived at the hotel, checked-in within minutes eventually found our room. Check-in staff failed to mention the lifts hidden around the corner from the staircase which would have been nice. To get to the rooms you walk through open air 'breeze-ways' which can leave you hot and bothered if you're lugging 20 kilograms of luggage!

Air-con was super efficient, bathroom spotlessly clean (though they had not changed a half-used shower gel), beds comfy. Rooms were very quiet and well insulated from any noise/heat (we had to turn off the air-con as it was too cold). I would recommend the deluxe rooms over the standard - from what I saw they looked a little depressing. We had a light meal at the casino bar (club sandwich which was only OK, fish n chips were better, coffee dreadful) and breakfast the next morning which was included in the tariff (big buffet with a reasonable amount of choices).

I probably wouldn't stay again for a few reasons :
1. smoke from the casino is terrible if you don't indulge yourself
2. distance from town centre leaves you at the mercy of casino catering
3. the hotel seems popular with tour groups who seem oblivious to other hotel guests

Outside of those small issues the room was very comfortable and very roomy.

The Lasseters Casino is located in the Casino and within walking distance to town (approx 10 – 15mins). It’s also backs onto the MacDonnell Ranges and the Golf Course. Other hotels are a few minutes away like the Crowne Plaza and the Desert Palm Hotel.

We had previously stayed at the Crowne Plaza and loved our room but decided to try something different this trip, the Casino Hotel was our next choice.

Our room 3202 was a suite which I had booked through wotif and received a good rate. On opening the double front doors our suite consisted of a large lounge/dining room with a cute bar and small kitchenette area. The lounge room had two small settees and doors leading out to a balcony which overlooked the swimming pool.

Our separate bedroom was massive with a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite. Plenty of excellent toiletries and a shower over a spa bath. The king size bed was extremely comfortable and we had a fabulous night sleep.

Broadband was available on the working desk in the lounge room and two plasma TV’s were supplied one in the lounge and the other in the bedroom. The air-conditioner worked like a dream which is the utmost importance when staying in Alice Springs.

We ordered breakfast in our room as why waste the dining table, and the food was okay although we were disappointed that fresh fruit was not on the menu.

In the evening we dined at the main restaurant and found the food to be ordinary and the staff extremely slow. I highly suggest dining in town, it’s much cheaper and there is plenty of different options available. On Saturday night the Casino restaurant offers a seafood buffet for $37.00 (for 2) which is excellent value if you want to save some dollars. The food again was ordinary but it did offer excellent value.

The swimming pool is a good size but not as private as the Crowne Plaza Hotel next door.

If hiring a car driving to the West MacDonnell Ranges is a must do on your list and can be easily done as a day trip from Alice. We found Simpson’s Gap, Ellery Creek and Ormiston Gorge to be the best spots to stop, however all were interesting offering dramatic scenery.

Overall, we enjoyed our extremely comfortable king size bed and spacious room. Although, I did prefer our suite in Crowne Plaza Hotel to Lasseter’s Hotel suite mainly because of the lovely views of the ranges.

For Alice Springs, I think both the Lasseter's and Crowne Plaza offer excellent outback comfortable stays .

We stayed here for one night in July 2007, while on a Globus tour.
Upon check-in, we received coupons for two free drinks and two chip discounts at the casino. I don't know if everyone gets those or if that was just because we were with a tour group.
The hotel/casino is too far from town of Alice Springs to walk to and we were advised by our tour director to especially not walk near the riverbed after dark. There was some kind of complimentary hotel shuttle to downtown that ran a couple of times during the day.
There were several buildings of hotel rooms, all with outside entrances and corridors.
Our room was spacious. There was a separate bathtub and shower.
There was a very nice pool area outside with a large pool.
We ate breakfast at the hotel/casino compliments of the tour. There was a large breakfast buffet with lots of choices.
