The story of the RFDS is unique and is well told in this museum. The contribution made by Alf Traegar with his pedal radio is so important and then there is the vision and courage of John Flynn. You can watch a movie in a special theatre and use the audio visual guides to discover so much. The exhibit of the Pilatus PC12 plane which is so well suited to the task and see the original medical kits they took on the plane. We visited here with a group from the Ghan train and it was a highlight in Alice Springs. What a fabulous part of our history and well done to management for producing such a high class display.

I learned so much on this tour to the RFDS Museum. Outside the theater there is a map of Australia which is active pin pointing where each plane is throughout the country, tracking all plane movements. Into the theater for a riveting twenty minute film on how it all began. Footsteps could be heard and then a hologram of John Flynn appeared and told the story. John Flynn had a vision which became a reality.
The museum is also interesting with interactive holograms adding to the magic. There is a replica RFDS plane which was great to pop into. All in all, highly recommend a visit here.

small and compact with lots of information. Get a great sense of the history of the service and the amazing work it continues to do. Prices in shop are reasonable

Excellent introductory talk and then into the museum which is fascinating, not just for the RFDS history but also for information about Alf Traeger

This review is based purely on a Sunday breakfast we had in April at their onsite cafe, not the museum itself.

I ordered scrambled eggs with gluten free toast. I can’t remember exactly the cost but it was around $13-14.

Toast was dry & cold. Not butter! Had to ask for butter, which when it came out was cold as well so impossible to spread. Pictures say it all.

Egg portion seemed to be one egg? Or two quail eggs perhaps? Such a tiny amount, on top of the dry cold toast wasn’t even enough to cover one piece let alone two.

A garnish of unseasoned, un-dressed, dry baby spinach really had no place on the plate.

A shame as we had been there for lunch the day before & really enjoyed it! Chef needs to get out of the kitchen & go find some love for food again!
