Owner description: Winner of the 2012 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Award for Best New Tourism Development. Since 1928 the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has provided 24-hour emergency medical services to those who live, work and travel throughout Australia. Today, the RFDS provides the finest care to more than 275,000 Australians each year – that’s one person every two minutes. Visit the original Alice Springs working base operating since 1939 to learn more about this unique service. The theatre allows the visitor to watch in comfort the life size hologram of John Flynn telling the story of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, a truly amazing experience! The Royal Flying Doctor Service is a non profit organization, with 100% of all profits made from tours, purchases in the cafe and from our online store going straight to the replenishment of medical equipment.

This visitor centre gives an insight into the amazing work the RFDS does for rural communities in Australia. It is a very well prepared tour with a short film and a walk through commentary. Donations help the RFDS to upgrade their equipment and service and is an important reason for offering the tour; I would suppose anyone who is interested in the RFDS wouldn't mind chipping in to keep this important service providing first class medical attention to people in remote Australia.

Really impressed with the dedication and commitment of the service which now covers almost the entire Australia. Our first time to get an insight to their operation. A truly must-see to understand how this excellent service operates.

Enjoyed the information video and the many services provided by the Flying Doctors. The museum has on display, many of the first medical kits as well as the first communication device fashioned by the founder.

I loved visiting this place. It's amazing to see the kind of work they do and very impressive that it has been on since 1929. There's a video and a small museum to see. I liked seeing the various planes, the old radio equipment and found the video very informative. I would recommend that you visit the place.

Most backpackers quite surprised with the entrance fee. Kind of small museum, just enough to tell about the RFD.
