Owner description: Winner of the 2012 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Award for Best New Tourism Development. Since 1928 the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has provided 24-hour emergency medical services to those who live, work and travel throughout Australia. Today, the RFDS provides the finest care to more than 275,000 Australians each year – that’s one person every two minutes. Visit the original Alice Springs working base operating since 1939 to learn more about this unique service. The theatre allows the visitor to watch in comfort the life size hologram of John Flynn telling the story of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, a truly amazing experience! The Royal Flying Doctor Service is a non profit organization, with 100% of all profits made from tours, purchases in the cafe and from our online store going straight to the replenishment of medical equipment.

This tour costs $7 and consists of a short film and a self directed tour. I almost cried during the film when a daughter told how her father was hurt in a farming accident and the Royal Flying Doctor Service came to his aid. The pilots will land in a paddock (field) or on the road. If you drive around Australia you will see that either side of the road is cleared just in case the Flying Doctor service has to land. They also do medical transfers in between cities and they will even come to the aid of tourists in the outback. Australians are proud of this service and they raise money for it. Well worth a visit.

For 12$, you have nothing real to see. The shop is bigger than the museum.
You have different informations about the history that you have to read.
But the video is just a big propaganda to ask you to give them money, money and more money. History? What? If you want to know how, when, where, read, read and read. Personally, I was really disappointed.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your thoughts on our Australian Tourism Award Winning Facility. I'm not sure what the JOKE is. Our dedicated and hard working staff who every day service the remote regions of Australia may not agree as well. I thank you for your donation which ensures we keep the Doctor Fyling to help the people of the Never Never. Enjoy your trip downunder.

Watching a short film in which people attest to how the Flying Doctor Service has been invaluable to people living in the Outback is the the highlight of a visit to the Facility. There is a little gift shop and for a fee, one can go inside a replica of a small plane.

I was expecting a little more from the birth place of the flying doctor visitor's centre. It was essentially a film show with a nice shop attached and the cafe was closed on sundays .I would have liked a bit more history in the film show it was more like an advert for the modern service.
