Owner description: Winner of the 2012 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Award for Best New Tourism Development. Since 1928 the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has provided 24-hour emergency medical services to those who live, work and travel throughout Australia. Today, the RFDS provides the finest care to more than 275,000 Australians each year – that’s one person every two minutes. Visit the original Alice Springs working base operating since 1939 to learn more about this unique service. The theatre allows the visitor to watch in comfort the life size hologram of John Flynn telling the story of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, a truly amazing experience! The Royal Flying Doctor Service is a non profit organization, with 100% of all profits made from tours, purchases in the cafe and from our online store going straight to the replenishment of medical equipment.

...to find out how the service operates as, being from the UK, I knew little about it - seems obvious, when I think about it, that they have numerous RFDS 'points' but I'd not realised there were so many! Fascinating to find out more about the service and see the real-time map showing what each aircraft is actually doing.

Nothing to really rave about. Watch a movie, look at some old stuff, then hit the shop. Having been to other RFDS sites where you can actually observe the radio room and the like, the Alice base was a dissapointment.

This was of particular interest as a member of my family had spent 6 months working as a Flying Doctor in the 1970's. This organisation is magnificent, the service that the RFDS provides is vital to the Outback Community in particular and the wider National community also. The Museum follows the life of the RFDS from its earliest days and gives a great insight into the progress made, the modernisation of the aircraft and equipment and the Nationwide development of the service provided. A "Must Do" attraction.

A lot of facts on how the Service works for Australian communities, presented in very interesting way. Friendly staff and a lot of nice, if proces souvenirs!

I was glad to learn more about the Royal Flying Doctor Service. I arrived by myself on a Saturday afternoon, and the attendant started the 15 minute film just for me. It was well-produced and very informative. The museum and souvenir shop were satisfactory. I thought that the food at the cafe was a little overpriced. I'd happily go back to the museum.
