Owner description: Winner of the 2012 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Award for Best New Tourism Development. Since 1928 the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has provided 24-hour emergency medical services to those who live, work and travel throughout Australia. Today, the RFDS provides the finest care to more than 275,000 Australians each year – that’s one person every two minutes. Visit the original Alice Springs working base operating since 1939 to learn more about this unique service. The theatre allows the visitor to watch in comfort the life size hologram of John Flynn telling the story of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, a truly amazing experience! The Royal Flying Doctor Service is a non profit organization, with 100% of all profits made from tours, purchases in the cafe and from our online store going straight to the replenishment of medical equipment.

“Fantastic!!”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

What a great one stop tourist destination. Visitors can view a very interesting tour of what it was like to live and work in the outback in the past and also in current times. after a great interesting morning in the museum off to the cafe - WOW the food is wonderful and great serves and reasonable prices. Great coffee too!! very comfortable with turn of the century wicker furniture, and then there's the shop, souvenirs of all qualities, so you could buy the cheapy stuff or buy some really lovely - pricey items but they are worth the extra! A must see when you visit the Alice.

“ho hum and expensive”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

Rather disappointed with this as a tourist attraction. Really you pay quite a lot to watch a film which runs on a small screen in the shop anyway! Then they ask you to pay more if you want to go into the mock up of a plane.

Thank you for taking the time to review our new Tourist Facility. We do have a promotional film that lasts for about 15 minutes and is shown in our new 70 seat theatre on a 6 metre wide screen. We also have free interactive portals showing a day in the life of an RFDS employee within our retail shop. The enterance fee includes the movie, question and answer time with our tour guide, enterance to our museum and the interactive portals. We do appreciate your comments and am dissappointed you didn't experience the whole package. Your visit is helping to keep the Doctor Flying.

“Keep the doctors flying!”

The entrance fee includes watching a short movie and visiting a tiny museum. The rest is a big souvenir shop with questionable non-RFDS-related choice of items. You know, a bag with skull and bones on it is a pretty weird thing to see :)
Radio translation sample buttons in the museum were not working.
