The Larapinta Trail http://www.larapintatrail.com.au/ takes you behind and beyond the tourist sites in the West MacDonnell Ranges to see and feel the extraordinary country, much of it only visible and appreciated from the top of the range. I trekked the western end of the trail with Trek Larapinta http://www.treklarapinta.com.au/ to experience the terrain, the history, the geology, the wildlife and plants with their knowledgeable and skilful guides, and I unhesitatingly recommend them to all.
We were a small group operating from a base camp, comfortably accommodated in sleeping bags & swags in tents, and fed culinary delights to nourish us for the exertions: try roast lamb and vegetables cooked in camp ovens to tempt and reward your appetites! Not to mention camp oven damper.
Trek Larapinta operate in sympathy with the unique and tough but still fragile environment of Central Australia, a creed which all our trekkers subscribed to and enjoyed, and learned from.
Mount Sonder had continually tantalised us and the culmination of our trek was the ascent.
Back in Alice Springs we had the bonus of the Camel Cup.
