It's well presented, it's a mix of displays and display boards, giving a feel for the early lives of women in Australia as well as a celebration of their achievements. Did you know the first science graduate in Australia was a woman? You'll find out lots of things amazing women have done as well as the amazing things ordinary women did. And after the Hall of Fame we sat and watched the video interview with the former matron of the gaol - a woman with imagination and inspiration.

Hi Olderromantic, glad to see your interest in our museum & Gaol, we hope to add more exhibitions and displays by early next year and will include more interactive displays such as pod casts and QR's to enhance our visitor experience. Yes the first science graduate was a women and she later went on to teach at the school she had attended as a young girl, Australia's first government school for girls. Our 'Women at the Heart' exhibition is also very special to us here as the families depicted in the exhibition still have relatives living in Alice and a number of the people are quite heavily involved with our museum as either committee members, volunteers or both. Our 'Gaol' interview with former matron 'Telka' has also proved to be very popular with our visitors and we will be expanding on this one in the future as well. Thank you so much for taking the time to review us and help spread the word about our wonderful 'hidden treasure' National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame.

Hi Marjorie, thank you for the positive feedback on your visit to our museum. Volunteers are definately the salt of the earth and without them we simply would not be able to open to the public as often as we do. When we first started out we opened for a mere 2 hours a day on 3 days a week and now, thanks to the tremendous support of our volunteers, we are open 7 days a week for 7 hours each day.
We are very busily updating our database this year and hope to be in a position by early next year to expand on and add new exhibitions on both the Gaol and pioneering women.

Really interesting anecdotal stories. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed walking through the exhibits and the old gaol in general. Really interesting place.

Hi Caitlin, so glad you enjoyed your visit to our museum and 'Old Gaol' complex. It is an interesting place to wander around in and spend time reflecting on the past history of the Gaol & pioneering women. Over the next 12 months we are hoping to improve our exhibitions by expanding some and adding new displays along with more history of the Gaol.

I enjoyed learning about the goal, mostly from the excellent AV presentation from the former "Matron" and got more from that side of the museum than I did from the presentations in the actual hall of fame!

Hi Jan, thanks for taking the time to review us, the Gaol history is still not completely available to us at this stage. To be able to put together some insight of life at the gaol through Telka (former matron) was a wonderful opportunity for us. Telka is actually a member of our board and has some fantastic stories to tell. We are still working with Telka to put together a second presentation that we are sure will be just as interesting and informative as the one you saw here.
We are pleased that you enjoyed this presentation.

The stories of these brave women are incredible. I can't imagine how it would be to set off into the unknown like they did, giving birth with no help and surviving.

Hi Donna,
yes we are a little hidden away but thanks to people like you who take the time to review us, word is spreading. Being a Not-for-profit organisation we can only afford to spend so much on advertising.
So glad you enjoyed our museum and the amazing stories being told within it. We are a very small but very dedicated group of people that are determined not to let our pioneering women dissappear all together. We are fortunate to have received a grant to enable us to have a curator on board this year and as you can imagine, without a curator for the last 9 years we have an enourmous amout of work to do
