The atmosphere of the restaurant connected to the Diplomat is certainly really nice and you can are not distracted by loud music. Unfortunately was the food not living up to the expectations created by the surroundings. Service was almost non existent and the portion of the food was too small. It was really busy so can understand staff was flat out.

The staff were all very friendly, the room was good, and I really appreciated the free Wi-Fi. The only let down was the person in the next room going outside to smoke every 20 minutes, I had to keep my door closed even though the temperature was perfect. I know they can't really do anything about that, unless there is a no smoking section I didn't know about. On the plus side, the air-con worked very well, quiet and efficient. Very good value for money.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your review on our property and for acknowledging how friendly our staff were and how good the quality of the room was during your stay.

FREE WiFi is certainly a lovely welcoming gift when checking into any establishment, marry that with a beautifully working air conditioner and you have yourself a lovely experience in the Red Centre!

Reception operates 24 hours a day and we are more than happy to assist with any complaints, queries or annoyances (like your neighbor smoking every 20 minutes).

Dave, we hope you return to The Diplomat and look forward to greeting you again.

Thank you for your feedback,

Anjelka Bazdaric

Check inn okay and a first inspaection of the room seemed okay . But the airconditioner rattled the whole room , went to see reception ,Maitenance man had just knocked off. No other room available.Would have it fixed asap. This is 4pm Friday (Hah). The approach to the stairs was disgusting the access door for the staff to the Kitchen eas open all weekend and you did not want to see the conditions inside .One wonders what the kitchen was like.Resturant ,Breakfast ,Sorry no orange juice all four days. Sorry ran out of this on the menu this occured all weekend. The balconyoutside our room was dirty with spilt drinks and food and realy needed a good clean .Cleaning staff need training on how to make beds. Not a pleasant place.

Room Tip: Check The airconditioners first

Dear Mike,

No one wants to hear that their establishment is not a pleasant place to stay. Though your feedback is mostly negative, we thank you for it nonetheless.

We have many guests who keep returning to The Diplomat because they feel comfortable, enjoy the amenities, our great customer service and the food in both Stumps Restaurant & Uncles Tavern. Locals rave about the quality and price point in both of these venues too.

Our Maintenance Manager is located on site five days a week. It is a shame that your issue regarding the air conditioner unit was received after hours. I can assure you that the air conditioner unit has since been serviced and no longer “rattles”.

Thank you for your review Mike and all the best,

Nothing special but perfectly comfortable for the price I paid.
Access to the room was through the car park, past the pools and up the same dingy stairwell mentioned by another reviewer. No problems with that really as you're not in the stairwell for long! It was a bit noisy at night as my room faced a lane way with drunk people talking loudly, and the traffic on the street nearby can be heard.

Standard amenities for a budget room. The pool looked clean. There is an extremely well priced and appealing room service dinner menu, with a hefty $9 fee per order for delivery.

The room and hotel facilities are pretty much the same as another hotel I stayed at in Alice Springs a week prior but the Diplomat was $35 less for one night and a friendlier welcome.

Our experience here was very average. Room was fine with comfortable beds and very clean but accessed via dingy and dusty stairway up which we had to drag our bags. It was also quite noisy at night. However, a very big advantage is the centrality of the location and ease of access to the mall.

Stayed there June 2013 for one night. Reception had my reservation so checking in was smooth. Basic room with ensuite, TV and kettle, coffee/tea/milk, but no other facilities for food preparation or warming. The Diplomat has its own restaurant, which for an extra fee will provide breakfast. Free wireless internet hopelessly slow. Strangely, glass windows of the bedroom open to the footpath outside gave a feeling of insecurity, but curtains could be drawn across them and they were easily locked. The Diplomat is right in the middle of the town, so at night it was a bit noisier than another hotel/motel I used in Alice Springs. However, being close to all the amenities, shops, restaurants, cafes made up for that inconvenience. Priced down to AUD100 with some negotiation made it very good value, as Coles and Woolworths are a very short walk away for breakfast provisions and other meals in local restaurants easily reached on foot.

Room Tip: Book a room on the ground floor, or else you'll be carting your luggage up a flight of stairs.

$100 in peak tourist time is good value at the Diplomat in Alice Springs. Rooms are spacious and well equipped. Reception friendly, food well priced. Recommended - except for room service breakfast, which comes with a $9 service charge!

Room Tip: ask for an inside room - avoids traffic noise [tho Alice is pretty quiet at night most times]
