“Good value basic accomodation”
Reviewed June 25, 2009

We stayed at this motel before and after a camping trip in the Red Centre. We found the motel staff to be exceptionally helpful, running down a list of restaurants and attractions in Alice Springs at the beginning of our stay (including pointing everything out on a map) and allowing us to do a load of laundry after-hours following our camping trip. Our two rooms were charming in a 1960s/1970s Brady Bunch sort of way, right down to the "console panel" of lights and radio built into the side of the night-table. However, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was hot. The motel was a short 20 minute walk from the CBD. Overall, this was basic but comfortable accommodation with excellent employees/owners.

My husband and I booked this hotel based on tripadvisor reviews and we were a little bit disappointed. Although we do agree with everyone that Jackie in Reception was lovely and very helpful the whole time.

I should preface that we normally stay in 4/5* hotels but when we're somewhere for one night we do lower our standards. The deluxe room was very basic, which wasn't a problem but it wasn't entirely clean in places. The carpets were quite stained and worn too. The hair dryer and kettle didn't work but I did get a replacement kettle when I needed it. The kitchen cutlery and crockery were very dirty and most of the milk was expired.

All little things but they do add up to your overall impression. If you need an overnight stay in Alice Springs we would recommend this hotel but we personally can't see why anyone would stay in Alice Springs for anything more than a transition to/from Uluru. If we were to come back to Uluru again, we would fly from Sydney (or elsewhere) right to Ayres Rock Airport and back.

We spent about 12 nights here over three weeks. Hostess Jacque went out of her way to look after us and accommodated our coming and going, no problem. Little things like home-baked Anzac biscuits on Anzac Day delivered to your room, BBQ pancakes by the pool on Mothers Day etc made the stay even better.

The motel has a mixture of older and newer units. Some need an upgrade but our older unit with kitchen suited us fine because it was very roomy. Much more character than a faceless hotel. It has just recently changed hands and the new owners are planning on cutting down the trees around the pool, if they haven't already. This is a shame because the trees also give nice shade and look good.

The motel is about at 10min walk to Todd Mall with lots of good restaurants between the two. The Italian one was really good.

Definitely recommended unless you are really fussy and want everything brand spanking new.

First of all, please note that this is a ONE STAR establishment but in terms of comfortable accommodation (especially the bed) and the customer service of Jacque, Barry and the whole EMU team , no 5* hotel can come anywhere near it. The accommodation may be slightly tired but do you really want to go to Alice and stay in an annonymous chain? Really sorry we only stayed for 2 nights before moving on to Sydney but MANY THANKS to everyone for a fab, informative and exceptionally enjoyable time.

Firstly, Sue and Anette are about as aussie as they come. when i say aussie, i mean understanding, honest and very friendly - no matter who you are. Me and 3 mates needed a room for our first and third night there... after the first night, because of such great service, we decided to stay there for the 2nd night as well. the value for money is so great, that we need to invent a new word for 'great'. They told us exactly where we need to hang out during the night, the places to visit during the day and places to avoid and why. 10 out of 10. thanks girls! hope to see you soon

I'd read previous reviews about this property, particularly about the wonderful Jackie. I found that to be true, she's a mine of information about where to go and what to do, and makes one feel very welcome. Some issues though - the cleanliness was pretty ergh - need to up the game there. It looked like it was clean a short time ago, but the ball is getting seriously dropped now. The rooms were OK - at the budget end, and old style, spacious, with comfy beds. Pool was appreciated and functional. One trap for young players - location. Alice is unsafe to walk around at night (gangs of predatory youngsters wanting your phone/ shoes/whatever), so you need to catch a cab, even if you're only wanting to walk 5-6 blocks from the centre. So add $10-20 onto your room rate if you're staying anywhere but right next to the Todd Mall area, where the restaurants/ cafes mostly are. It might be better to pay a little more and stay more central. Good luck with that though - it's hard finding a decent and reasonably priced hotel in central Alice.

We stayed 1 night at Alice Motor Inn on March 30th after our flight from Melbourne, before heading to Kings Canyon the next day

We had a deluxe suite, which had a double bed + another bed, the room was big and clean, bathroom was nice, airconditioning a bit loud but we didn't mind

Location is OK if you have a car (it is a bit outside city center)

I would recommend this hotel for a short stay
