“Wonderfully refurbished rooms with lovely big comfy beds”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2011

Having tried several motels in Alice during my frequent business/pleasure trips there I am now a regular at Elkira. The friendly staff are always very helpful and the newly refurbished rooms are without doubt the best in Alice.

The king beds are sooooooooooooo comfy, which is vital as, wherever you come from to Alice, it is a long trip and it is so important to sleep well.

The Resort is very conveniently situated in the middle of town and all shops and entertainment are a short walk away. Even the out of town attractions are easy to find and to get to.

The resturaunt is excellent and the large screen music videos provide quiet relaxing entertainment to compliment the meal.

All in all I highly recommend the Elkira and I make sure all my staff and associates stay there as well. I have yet to hear any sort of negative vibe from any of them.

Normally when traveling I prefer to stay in or near the center of town. Alice Springs turned out to be an exception. We stayed at Elkira for one night prior to a multi-day tour of the Red Centre, figuring that we're better off being in town in order to make the most of our short time there. Turned out that the most interesting places we went to (telegraph station, kangaroo sanctuary) were just outside of town.

The rooms at Elkira were very much outdated, yet the price seemed on par with some of the nicer hotels away from the town center. Staff at Elkira were friendly but didn't provide the best recommendations when it came to restaurants or things to do. Since we hired a vehicle anyways, we would have been fine staying away from the town center, and that would be my recommendation to those visiting Alice Springs. One positive: wifi was included in the rate. If venturing to the Outback, this may be your last chance to connect with the world for a while.

I'd like to take this opportunity to mention some things about Alice Springs, not directly related to Elkira, that I think travelers will find useful. First, the highlight of our stay (and perhaps our Australia vacation as a whole) was a visit to the Kangaroo Sanctuary, just outside of town near the airport. Brolga, the man who runs the sanctuary, built it recently to protect injured and domesticated kangaroos against predators while maintaining a huge natural habitat. The visit included a guided walk with these kangaroos, and fortunately for us there was a baby kangaroo that we got to hold. I highly recommend visiting the sanctuary if staying in Alice Springs. It was just recently built, so not many people in town knew about it, including the staff at Elkira. The address is 11 Colonel Rose Drive. Send me a private message if you'd like the phone number.

I'm very thankful to Irma from Outback Travel Shop in Alice Springs. Irma organized our Red Centre tour and other tours for us throughout our 2-week travel in Australia. Irma was extremely helpful to our travel planning, and she was able to negotiate reduced rates for some of our tours. I'll definitely contact Outback Travel Shop again if visiting Australia. They can easily be found online.

Finally, for Outback tours I recommend Adventure Tours, whose 4-day Red Centre "Safari In-Style" tour exceeded our expectations.

This was our 3rd trip to Alice, (the first some 10 years ago) and our second stay at Elkira. We were there 2 years ago in the King Suite and were amazed at the refurbishment now completed to all of the rooms. Beautifully done, from the comfy bed to the stylish bathrooms and addition of facilities for tea/coffee etc. The dining was as good, if not better than our last stay, both breakfast and dinner. The staff are always happy, friendly and helpful, not to mention the Host & Hostess Kel & Julie. A fabulous and friendly couple who go out of their way to make your stay a memorable one, both at Elkira and venturing further. Also great location to walk around town and the mall etc.
Big difference in temp than Sydney!!! Highly recomend and we'll be back!!

On a recent trip to the outback Australia I had an occassion to spend a couple of nights in Alice Springs and chose the Elkira Resort (Great Western) We booked a king room and to my surprise found one of the best appointed rooms that I have stayed in . The room was well appointed with modern soft furnishings, and large spa. the room also had many extras such as Microwave , Toaster and the usual other appliances which made our stay more comfortable. The staff where friendly and very helpful when we required extra service. Do yourself a favour and take the opportunity to dine in their restaurant the menu is not extensive but the food is great so try the kangaroo if you get the chance .This property is close to the mall and easy walking distance We were made to feel very welcome by the staff and the owners Kel and Julie.

Room Tip: Ask for the king spa room it is well appointed.

I recently spent two nights at the Elkira in Alice Springs and can highly recommend this motel. We had a lovely room which had recently been renovated and included a spa, microwave and other kitchen utilities. The linen was white and crisp and the bed most comfortable. The room was very tastefully furnished with plenty of bathroom toiletries and lovely fluffy towels.

We had pre-dinner drinks in the outdoor area which had adequate gas heating and ate in-house during our stay there. A good selection on the menu with compliments to the chef. Overall, a very convenient place to stay and walking distance to the Todd Street Mall and all conveniences.

After a 15 night tour in the Northern Territory, we found accommodation standards to be extremely variable but pricey. The Elkira was probably one of the best places we stayed at. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room comfortable and well equiped. Having a microwave and toaster was handy. The television had a good selection of channels, but reception was poor. The hotel has limited parking. It was enough while we were there but only just one night. Most places in the centre of Alice are walkable. There are Coles and Woolworths supermarkets nearby and numerous takeaways. If you can get a good deal on room price, this is certainly one of the better places to stay in Alice

We had a very pleasant 2 day stay in Elkira at Alice Springs. It was a high standard motel for a reasonable price. The breakfast was good and the evening restaurant meal great. We even had the pleasure of a BeeGees video on the big screen to watch during dinner. Very pleasant music to listen to as we enjoyed a lovely steak with a superb glass of wine.

However I don't recommend Alice Springs town centre itself. Walking around at night was a bit scary, I kept thinking someone was watching me.
