“promises a lot but delivers little”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

We dined here after a long hard day on the road, this place was attached to the motel we were staying so it seemed easier to get a meal here rather then travel out side & look for a feed. the menu seemed interesting, which was a factor in deciding to eat here. lots of interesting choices to choose from.

while the menu was promising what was delivered was disappointing. the problem here is saying you have duck a l 'orange, what comes out is duck with a sauce, rice & 3 veg. if you called it that in the first place there would be no expectation & hence satisfaction, the other problem is charging over $30 for what is a very ordinary dish. And so it went on, a fancy discription for scallops which was scallops, grapefruit & plain old salad. the lamb curry was good but i have tasted better.

trying to overdo it & calling it a fancy name, does not neccessarily make it better. if this place was not trying to be an over priced fancy restaurant, it would be okay, the staff were great, the service was good, the rest was just okay.

“Happy to be a repeat customer”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

My wife and I have now dined at Sunaraas on three occasions. On the first occasion, my chicken dish was undercooked. I managed to safely eat most of it but there was some still raw meat hanging on the bone. When the waitress came to clear away our plates, I pointed this out. She couldn't have been more apologetic and insisted on giving us free desserts. My wife's duck dish was very nicely cooked and much enjoyed.

On our subsequent visits, the food has all been well prepared. The waiting staff have been unfailingly cheerful and helpfully explain the menu and keep you apprised of when the next course is due to arrive. We have never had to wait long for the food to arrive. The waiting staff appear well trained and are a credit to the place.

The interior is cavernous and is usually mostly empty. However, the tables are arranged for dinner service in one section of the restaurant making it a little more cosy. There are some lounges arranged in other parts of the restaurant. The ambience is quite pleasant.

Main courses are around $25-$35, which is unexceptional for a full service restaurant in Alice Springs. Serving sizes are generous. There are perhaps 10-12 main course choices from an eclectic mix of cuisine styles.

I'm glad that an undercooked piece of chicken didn't prevent me from returning. The staff handled the situation with diligence and professionalism. As much as anything, that encouraged me to return.
