Vatu Sanctuary & Homestead

I had the delight of staying at Vatu Sanctuary for a six month period whilst working in the Alice. The pleasure every day of returning to this wonderful Oasis, where both inside and outside are a treat to the senses, is an experience I will treasure. Wonderfully maintained, and decorated with a homage to art, the lovely 2 bedroom Kingfisher was my retreat. I was able to entertain friends and had family come to visit in surrounds that provided peace and tranquility. Every option for accommodation is different, but equally enchanting, and because there are so many outside areas to enjoy, with the joy of access to water both with sight and sound, I never felt as though I was sharing the Sanctuary with anyone, it felt as though I had the place to myself, even though I didn't! This really is the best accommodation in Alice Springs.

The joy about having Vatu Sanctuary is the wonderful people we meet! We seem to attract a great bunch and our lives are enriched by this! Having you stay 6 months was amazing - thrilled you loved being here and having your own mini resort. It certainly beats the expense and hassle of a big move interstate when coming to work. Always welcome back!

Not all accommodation in the Alice is the same. Vatu sanctuary is hidden in suburban Alice Springs and offers, as the name suggests, a sanctuary for the outside world.
There are a number of different accommodation units, all with access to a large pool and garden, but some with their own tranquil garden as well. The unit I stayed in, The Bure, was comfortably furnished with a great deal of thought given to the comfort and peace of mind of their guests. There are many works of art, some modern, some ancient, some Australian and many from other parts of our region. Thought appears to have gone into the Feng Shui of the place as well and there is a lovely pondok style outdoor lounging about area. The kitchen is well equipped and even has the basic condiments supplied, perhaps by each guest leaving what they do need to take with them. Well worth the investment if you plan to have a few days in the Alice.

Room Tip: Look at the website in detail. All of the accommodation options are different and each will suit a d...

Thanks for your great review and helpful tips for fellow travellers. We are very happy that you appreciated our attention to detail, enjoyed the feeling of the place and the sense of security and peace it brings. Although it is only 2km north from town, we are in another world...

The Bure is special - I hope you enjoyed your private spa under the stars!

Warm regards, Roslyn

We stayed at Vatu Sanctuary in the "The Pond" apartment for 4 nights after a few days exploring Uluru. It was easy to make bookings at Vatu and everything was more than expected when we arrived. The artwork inside and out is unique and much of it is even available to buy. Vatu is really private with several areas to eat outside, read or just relax and all is surrounded by tropical garden and fountains. We made the most of the large spa pool every night and the shared swimming pool during the day. Bliss.

Keep up the great work as you have something so special at Vatu and we can't wait to return! Thoroughly recommended.

Thanks for the great feedback. With our gallery background, we love creating beautiful spaces that invigorate the senses and deepen visitors' knowledge and appreciation about the extraordinary Aboriginal art movement that exists in Central Australia. A natural extension has been to offer for sale the artwork you live with when you can't bear to leave it behind!

We can also organise for you to explore the delights of various bush foods with a local Aboriginal caterer. This is perfect you have a medium sized group taking over the whole property as your private resort.

Warm regards to all your group, Roslyn

This was the highlight of our stay in Alice Springs!
We didn't want to go out at all after arriving at 'The Pond' which we were upgraded to after the Kingfisher was being refurbished. It didn't matter, each apartment is more gorgeous than the last.
Had come from a camping tour of Uluru and in need of some down time (and a catch up with family in Alice) and could not imagine a better way to spend it.
Has to be one of the most unusual and beautiful places we have ever stayed
(and it still appears to be a secret in Alice...lets keep it that way!)
Colin could not have been more helpful.
Only complaint is we didn't have enough time to stay longer...will just have to come back.
Thank you for an amazing stay

I will pass on your thanks to Colin, our Manager. We are delighted to hear that you will be returning to spend more time with us - come for at least a week next time to truly unwind, enjoy the beauty of being here in between the occasional day trips.

It is true that is perfect for those visiting family and friends in Alice Springs - or for those locals that wish to escape routine and replenish without the expense and time of travelling interstate!

Warm regards, Roslyn

We stayed at Vatu Sanctuary for 6 nights in the 3 bedroom and 1 bedroom apartments. When we arrived we just couldn't believe how beautiful it was: the grounds are landscaped but in a quirky "secret garden" sort of style. Everywhere you look is something different and amazing, there are paintings on the outside walls, ponds with statues, a water feature and lovely saltwater pool. Inside are more treasures with paintings on every wall surface. Everything you would need for a short stay has been thought of, plenty of towels, coffee & tea, filtered water, every utensil you could think of. It was spotless and decorated with interesting pieces in every room. Lots of comfy lounges, outdoor settings and a huge BBQ. There was a jumbo sized spa with swim jets and as we relaxed in that with a (plastic) glass of champagne on a beautiful desert afternoon we felt like we were in paradise. We were there for a wedding and it was so lovely we decided to do the photos for the bridal party getting ready there.

Thank you for the great review Donna and the compliments about how beautiful and carefully considered Vatu Sanctuary is. We are delighted that the property was perfect for your special gathering providing a beautiful and tranquil atmosphere leading up to the wedding with plenty of photo opportunities and places to unwind afterwards.
The Bure is perfect for a couple as it is very romantic and private whereas the three bedroom apartment, The Pond, provides luxury and space for everyone to meet and dine together. We look forward to welcoming you, your family and friends back to Vatu Sanctuary again in the future. On behalf of Colin and myself, warm regards, Roslyn

Relaxed as soon as we arrived at Vatu. An excellent base when in Alice Springs and visiting Uluru. Such a tranquil and secluded space to come home to - beautiful bird-life, gardens, waterfall and entertaining area. All the mod-cons & luxury not to mention the world-class art which was a real treat.

Can't wait to get back there!

Thank you Jock T for your kind review. We loved having you and your family stay with us.

Our property is about tranquility and providing guests with secluded spaces to relax and enjoy themselves. It is also about providing a perfect place from which to explore our very special region of Central Australia, and then after your discoveries, coming back to your apartment to rest and recharge. We do have fantastic bird life here in the region and are lucky that some such as the White-plumed Honeyeater, Australian Ringnecked, Kingfisher and Western Bowerbird, among others like to also visit our gardens. We also have other wildlife live on the properites, only the other day, I snapped some photos of the Desert Tree Frog (rescued from our spa) and relocated the frog to our Lotus Pond. You can see some images on our Facebook page.

Of course, no visit to Central Australia is complete without viewing some of the magnificent Indigenous artwork, which we also showcase in all our apartments.

We do get many return visitors stay with us, from short term to the longer term professionals who are here for work or business - so we certainly look forward to you staying with us in the future and my warmest regards to your family, Colin L.

Should have posted this review way earlier... I always start smiling when I read "hidden gem" in Tripadvisor reviews. And now I HAVE to use the same phrase. It is absolute heaven to be in this place. We stayed almost a week just before Christmas.
We stayed in Vatu Sanctuary - The Bure. What a great place to be, And we had the complete place almost all to ourselves. And fortunately Colin was there every morning and he gave us some great tips! Stanley Chasm at noon: spectacular; The wallabies at the Gap etc. And, yes, Colin: after we left you and visited Kings Canyon and Uluru we agree with you: the early morning 5 am walk of the Kings Canyon rim was the undisputed highlight of our holiday.
It's great to have a host who is there when you need him and further leaves us in complete privacy.
We recommend Vatu to anyone who wants to relax in a beautiful environment.
As mentioned by many: best equipped apartment I ever visited in my whole life. We loved the art. BTW Some of Dorothy Napangardi's paintings are now on display in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Amazing!
Colin, Rosalyn: thanks very much for having us at the Vatu!

Thanks for such a great review Paul. I am so delighted that you had a wonderful stay.

The Bure is very magical, isn't it? Most people who book a return stay refer to it as 'their Bure'.

The thatched roofing over the outdoor platform leading to the spa allows just enough light and air to make it enjoyable to hang out even on hot days which I imagine you had leading up to Christmas.

Isn't Colin wonderful? He is very knowledgeable about the area and a keen photographer so he has all the tips! Vatu Sanctuary & Homestead feels privileged to have him as our Manager.

It is great that you enjoy having lived with museum quality art!

We hope to have you visit again. Warm regards, Roslyn
