We stayed at Mary river wilderness retreat for a period of 3 nights,13th July till 16th July, the host and staff were fantastic, the park its self was awesome, peace and quite and the wallaby's and birds were fab, the wallaby's came so close to the cabin and when we came outside they didnt move, the walks that we were told about were great it felt like we were right out in the back of nowhere. The BBQue area was great we meet quite a few people from overseas plus from around Aus and they all said how beautiful this place was.I would not hesitate to recomend this place to other people because of the tranquility and the awesome hospitality of the park owners. The accom we had, had 5 beds, so a family with kids could easily stay there, there was an ensuite also a fridge and an air conditioner, basic enough but very comfortable.

We stayed at the campground for one night on our way from Kakadu to Darwin. At once, we noticed the tranquillity of the surroundings with a parklike campingground with basic facilities. Nice pool even though it is quite small, our family of five filled it up really well. Not many camping sites which contributed to the secluded feeling so book in advance during top season! We tried the restaurant and it was nothing fancy, but alright. Free internet in the lobby area.

Based ourselves here as we did some travelling in the NT. Staff were all very pleasant. Breakfast wasn't included in price but we went to the restaurant each day for it for $9. It was ok, not too much of a selection and only continental options. Cabins were basic but we were given some amenities. Towels weren't changed and they got pretty wet with the leaking shower. However they obliged when we asked for new ones at no extra cost. Look out for the cool aboriginal paintings they have on display. My friend and I both purchased one. Only ate here 1 night as the choices were limited. It was very cool waking up to wild kangaroos.

We stayed in a poolside bungalow for one night. Cost $220 for one night for two - no breakfast or meals included. ($220 per nite).

The first thing that struck me was the calm feel to the hut as we walked in which was decorated really well – in fact probably one of the nicest and cleanest decors we came across in the 6 hotels we stayed in, modern, bright, clean and relaxing, complete with good bed, nice shower and bathroom and a wardrobe.

Don’t expect a TV or even a clock – it is a retreat and there was none of this, nor internet access in the rooms, and no information on the area. There were two chairs in the room that tipped us a long way back so were not very comfortable! There were two nice swimming pools. There was a lot of lawn and three walk trails plus the Mary River on the property, and wallabies.

One reason we booked in here was so that we could go on the sunset cruise on the Mary River that was advertised. We booked and paid for it in advance and were very disappointed that it was cancelled. The cruise was only $90 for the 2 of us and we were looking forward to it.

Restaurant on site. Nice vegetarian food cooked especially for us – stuffed capsicum – which we much appreciated. Thank you.

We were a family of three and booked a family cabin. The first thing to say was that the advertised deck consisted of one chair and table. You would never be able to get another chair on it was so small. Other decks were a good size so why chose this as a family room. Pillows were in short supply. Pool was small but warm. Very nice location next to river with wildlife present - especially at night so do not forget yout tourch. Resturant is very limited if you are staying more than one night. There is another resturatnt a bit further up the road (Bark Hut) which oddly has the same items on their more extensive menu. The self drive boat trip is worth doing and reasonably priced - birds, crocs and lots of bats.

Room Tip: If a family, not room 24

We stayed three nights in this wilderness retreat which is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from Darwin. We arrived around 9pm and followed the signs to reception. Check-in was efficient and there is a torch on the room key ring which made it easy to find our way to cabin 14.

The cabin is clean but appropriately furnished for a wilderness retreat: queen and single bed, two night tables, bathroom with shower, fan, air conditioning and a bar fridge. There is a small veranda with a table and two chairs. The corrugated iron cabins are rustic but comfortable.

The grounds are parklike and attractive with trees and wildlife (wallabies). Although near the highway there was no traffic noise.

We had two dinners in the restaurant and enjoyed our meals. The food was fine (there are about seven options for mains and desserts are sticky date pudding or ice cream options) and the service very friendly. Drinks were very reasonably priced which was appreciated.

Breakfast is just okay, juice, cereal, yoghurt, toast and instant coffee.

We did use our insect repellent in the evenings and recommend bringing some along.

Bronwyn was very helpful and provided good information on what to see and what roads are appropriate for the vehicle we were driving.

We recommend this friendly, pleasant wilderness retreat.

Spent 4 nights in a poolside bungalow here and wished I could have stayed another week. My son and I were escaping the cold down south and booked here due to the great reviews and promised tranquility. We were not disappointed. After 4 days in an incredibly noisy apartment in Darwin, this place was heaven. The staff are fantastic, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The pool bungalows are super clean and beds very comfortable and having your own quiet pool in peak season is a blessing as the main pool was fairly busy. After one day doing the long drive into Kakadu and back we decided to spend the rest of our time just relaxing around the campsite, swimming, reading and just chilling on our verandah. We had the whole deluxe cabin area pretty much to ourselves - wonderful. It was also so nice to have a complete break from tv, clocks, stereos, phone etc.
The restaurant menu was limited but the food was delicious and you can bring your own provisions and cook in the camp kitchen. The walks on the property are pleasant and its lovely to be surrounded by wildlife and the immaculate green grounds. I cannot recommend this place highly enough for those looking for a quiet retreat surrounded by nature.

Room Tip: Choose the pool bungalows in peak season if you want peace and privacy.
