Definitely NOT for the serious Oeneophile!

In fact, not for anybody who wants a superb restaurant experience.
The menu is a dabble in many disparate directions, without any real commitment.

This also serves to summarise the wine list. A dabble of disparate wines that are largely unknown (with good reason) without any commitment.

Wines are shockingly overpriced, being double to triple any expectation, and well beyond any semblance of a reasonable table price. Many of the poorer wines are at least four times what ought to be charged for wines of such lesser quality.

It was 45 minutes before the first bottle was opened. If you want a skilled sommelier who will play it straight with you, you are in the wrong place. The sommelier, with a straight face, made a recommendation that was against my better judgement. Either the sommelier is hopelessly out of her depth, or was deliberately attempting to hoodwink a customer. At least she had the good sense to not charge for ONE of the dud bottles she foisted upon us.

Nice atmosphere, with a very nice bar at the back.

Great place if you wander in the back door and want an intimate and classy bar drink. One of the best intimate & cosy back street bar experiences I've had. However be sure wine & dine elsewhere.

For my own birthday dinner this year I booked a table at the Ocean Room. We got the table at the window with views on the Sydney Opera House, which was lovely, but not necessary because we've been living in Sydney for some years now. The tasting menu was amazing, as was the service. Had some lovely sake's as well to go with the menu. The 12 course tasting menu was served in a little more than 3 hours, so allow time, this was exactly right for the amount of food served. Good memories, will return for sure!

The service really let the whole experience down. We waited 20 minutes to have our order taken.. and trying to get refills on drinks was such a chore.
The food was quite good though and came out at a nice pace when it eventually started.
It lacked ambiance (too bright for night time dining on the waterfront), in a huuuuge room which was impersonal.

Just so-so.. not one we'd return to.

I have booked a table for our Anniversary in January,
however our table was canceled only 1 day before the actual event, because of an "emergency"-wedding to be held at the Ocean Room. With such a short notification I was ofcourse not able to find another table in a different restaurant- as we wanted to have a special night for a special event.

I have spoken to the Manager of the Ocean Room numerous times to resolve the problem. He has noted my contact details such as phone number and email address and has offered me a voucher for inconvenience, however 5 months past I am still waiting for that voucher! This is not a customer service you would expect from an upper class restaurant! Very disapointed how the management is handeling the customers!

We booked a table of six at this establishment to have a birds eye view of the Sydney Opera House. The Vivid light show started that evening and we wanted to see the projections onto the Sydney Opera House Sails.

The good thing about the evening was that we were able to use our Entertainment Gold Cards (cards that provide discounts for 12 months which gave us $150 discount for the 6 of us) and we did get a birds eye view of the Opera Hpuse sails. The rest of the evening was average however.

We selected the house option of an eight course selection of smaller servings.

Presentation was good, the service staff even tried to explain each dish in detail however, we never felt like they enjoyed what they did and nor did we enjoy the experience.

After all these years of travel and dining around the world we should have known that anything close to the tourist mile is a tourist trap.

The evening cost us $900 between the three couples, this included three bottles of wine but AFTER the $150 discount.

There are much better places to eat and for that sort of money we could have eaten AT The Opera House and walked outside to have a look at the Sails.
