Description: Tetsuya's serves a ten course degustation menu. The degustation is unique, based on the Japanese philosophy of using natural seasonal flavours, enhanced by classic French technique and utilising the freshest possible ingredients. Tetsuya designed his own on-site "test kitchen" within the restaurant to enable him to create the constantly evolving and inspiring dishes on which he has built his esteemed international reputation. Tetsuya's offers one of Sydney's most comprehensive wine lists and our sommeliers will, upon request, match the dishes with wine available by the glass.

The food experience, the service, everything here is as it should be. The price is high, but so is the value. Go for the degustation if it is on offer.

First time to Tetsuya's and given its reputation and some of the mixed reviews over the last couple of years, our expectations were high, if a little apprehensive. This was never going to be cheap so it needed to be good......

From the warm welcome at the door, through to seating, the explanation of the courses, the matching wines (optional but, in my opinion worth it), a constant level of attentiveness and warmth but never overbearing, through to organising a taxi home, the service was absolutely first class.

Regarding the food, over 10+ courses its inevitable there will be some outstanding dishes that both challenge and play to your personal taste prefs, and others that may seem bland or unexciting. Overall, we were very impressed. Special mention for the pea and dark chocolate soup, salad of the sea, the signature Petuna ocean trout, the partridge, plus a special dessert of vanilla pod and blue cheese bavarois. Each of these involved unconventional or unusual pairings of flavours and textures that generated much discussion. Exactly what I'm looking for in a experience of this kind.

Less exciting dishes, but of no less quality, were the (optional) oysters, scampi, the lamb, and the floating island meringue.

It's also worth mentioning that they catered for a shellfish allergy with no fuss, substituting one of the dishes with a beautiful vegetarian dish, and being aware we were celebrating a special occasion they brought an extra, final dessert and a matching wine. It's these touches that set it apart.

Some have mentioned the length of time taken for the experience. Given the number of courses, the lead-time for bookings and the overall sense of occasion, not to mention the cost, why would you want to rush this? We were there for 5 hours, it felt neither rushed or over-long, and allowed time to digest and enjoy each course.

Being foodies, we've eaten at a number of 2 & 3 Michelin-starred restaurants around the world over the years and this easily compares to the best.

We had a very nice experience just yesterday. For the total bill over $500 for two, we had expected and received same food level and almost same level of service.
An absolutely perfect prepared meals (no exceptions, so rarely!), moreover, we had changes (don't eat meat) for some excellent fish dishes.
The service is very attentive, just little bit slow sometimes. Our dinner took 2 hours and 50 minutes, but should at least 2.15, believe our experience!
Also, we had a table just opposite entrance and had to look at waiters all the time plus can hear the noise from the kitchen. It isn't be possible in the restaurants like this, for sure!
Double espresso appeared as long black coffee. Not a level.
But, anyway, I've rated 5 of 5. Must do dining experience in beautiful Sydney city.

I have been to Tetsuya's twice and have loved it both times. Every dish was exceptional and a journey for you taste buds! We had the matching wines which were chosen perfectly and really enhanced the taste of each dish.

While extremely pricey, it is a once (or twice) in a life time meal. Each visit included 10-12 courses with wines and lasted 3-4hours and I enjoyed it both times.
