Once you work out the menu, you have to just work out how much you want. Yes it is a degustation menu, but the portions are small, and then you are not quite sure how big the portions are on the plates you have to pick. The flavours are excellent, the presentation stunning.

We recently went to Rockpool for dinner while on a trip to Sydney. The food and staff were great but it did have hiccups. As we were an early reservation, the first part was fabulous. As the restaurant started to fill, the staff got busy. We filled our own wine glasses, received courses out of order and as much as the waiter did his best you could see he was overloaded. All meals were great with the exception of my husband pigeon (the skin wasn't crispy) which to Rockpool's credit was immediately taken off the bill and all the other little issues cleared up straight away. With the exception of the above hiccups, we did have a lovely time at this venue and enjoyed the food very much.

This a must do Sydney dinning experience. About as good as it gets, the degustation menu is not only delicious but can be expanded or contracted according to your appetite. And the service, second to none, nothing is too difficult and you are made to feel very special. A wine list to die for just adds to the whole perfect package. Not cheap, but $500 for 2 with great wine, cocktails, desert etc, is very good value for an experience of this quality. Must book.

We had a great evening at Rockpool. The service was charming, friendly and knowledgeable and the food was interesting. But... Surely any restaurant that has to bring out 8 canapé style appetisers 'so you get what we're about' is more about them than the customer. It has to be said they were all delicious. Unfortunately that didn't apply to the next 2 courses. We found the congee, the tuna and the quail to be over seasoned and unenjoyable. My daughter ordered the lamb for her main course which was beautifully cooked and was served with pearl barley and shiitake mushrooms, and also included some tofu. She said afterwards that she wasn't sure what the tofu was supposed to add to the dish as it doesn't have any flavour and it was cut in such small pieces that it didn't add texture.
It has to be said the wine recommended by the sommelier, particularly the Tasmanian Pinot Noir was superb.
An enjoyable experience, but not somewhere I would return to.
