I have just returned to my hotel from dinner at the Rockpool on George and my first thought is that I cannot fathom those diners who complain about portion size. I consider myself a hearty eater (a nice way of saying greedy!) and even I had to bring some of my dinner home in a box...the only reason being I was so sated I could not eat another mouthful. The meal was on the whole delicious but I have taken off one star on the basis that I found some of the seasoning (the cuttlefish in particular) to be a be a just a tad heavy handed. A personal call but hey, this is a personal review.
The service was warm and charming and the sommelier deserves special mention (I'm only sorry I can't recall his name). Excellent guidance on the wine and a brilliant pear liquor match for the Toffee Apple dessert.
Bottom line? If you want acres of average food for a modest price, the Rockpool on George is not for you. If you want food that really makes you think about what you're eating and if you appreciate a bit of refinement, look no further.
