My friend Franz Scheurer, a well regarded food writer suggested we go and we did in March 2013. We have been back twice subsequently including once with a group of a dozen.
Great ambience and buzzy. Centrally located.in Darling Park with cheap night parking nearby.
It is fully licenced but offers BYO at $10 per bottle. We like BYO as I prefer to bring wines from my cellar.
The food is fantastic and the helping are very large.
Our two favourites are Satchmo's squid - a whole squid that is exceedingly tender and a beautiful flavour and Mingus Scallops that are served with asparagus. The scallops are just cooked and perfect.
The Chicken Laksa is pleasant but not my favourite (Malay Chinese in Hunter Street that basically serves street food make best laksa I have ever tasted).
But at Chintaria a must have is the Roti. This is the best roti I have ever had, flaky and flavoursome.
