During our recent visit to Sydney we popped into the Sailors Thai on the off chance that we might get into the canteen upstairs. As it was, we were lucky enough to get a table on the outside deck in the downstairs restaurant.
I fell in love with the complexity of Thai food many years ago and have eaten in some great Thai restaurants (including in Thailand and other parts of Asia). Sailors Thai is authentic and as good as i have tasted.
We had the complete tasting menu - 3 starter plates, 4 larger plates plus desert. There is a cheaper option which includes any 2 of the larger plates.
It is difficult to single out any particular dish but I am a chilli lover and as I've said, I love the complexity of some of the dishes. On that basis i would mention the Betel leaves with prawns, peanuts and coconut and the beef rib salad with chilli lime dressing, although it seems a shame not to mention the belly pork or the tiger prawns........ you get the idea? It was superb.
Sitting out on the deck on a balmy Sydney evening with all that wonderful food and good wine made for a night to remember.
