Description: Longrain Sydney is located at 85 Commonwealth St in Surry Hills. Inspired by the communal eating philosophy of the Asian table, our menu is made up of dishes created for sharing. Longrain's menu has evolved from Martin Boetz's original Longrain vision, bringing South East Asian influences to carefully sourced ingredients with fresh, zingy flavours. His vibrant menu is carefully balanced with wines and cocktails chosen by restaurateur Sam Christie. Our long, shared tables encourage the spirit of eating together, so you can try each dish as part of a full tasting experience, just as it was intended (limited reservations available). Book one of our individual tables for parties between 6 - 10 people; or Private Dining Room for 12-18 guests.

Upmarket Thai fusion with lots of variety, very good for a group. We were 7. Not particularly cheap, but all very tasty and nicely presented. Brilliant cocktails! If nothing else, go for the cocktails. One of our group ordered his own and they made it and it was good.

Had dinner here last night arrived at 615 and took a seat (at our fav section) the bar. By 715 there were only a couple of seats left empty. We decided to skip entree and go straight to mains we ordered whole fish (Snapper) baked in banana leaf which was superb moist and juicy with the right hint of chillies and herbs. We also tried the broccoli in oyster sauce (nice but nothing great) and a pumpkin and vegetable green curry (unbelievably good) well worth a try. Drinks consisted of a couple of cocktails (Majito and a cherry bomb). Both were very good although the cherry bomb could have been sweeter. We skipped desert, as our meal was filling enough. Service is very good our waiter was prompt and attentive and bar staff were always on hand if we needed them. Do be aware though that the place gets very busy so you may have a wait if you arrive after 730. It's quite a large venue with a designated cocktail lounge you can utilise until a seat is ready for you for dinner. It is also very noisy and very dark which is a shame particularly as I had to raise my menu towards the ceiling light to read it which was a little annoying. All up an enjoyable experience. Cost wise $130 for two cocktails and three mains, oh and found out that Saturday night is 'no specials' night which also is a shame Longgrain specials are usually very good. Definitely will be going back again though as great fans of both Longgrains (Sydney and Melbourne).

We keep going back again & again for the famous egg net which is an absolute must try when visiting longrain. The cocktail area is nice, it's alwaya relaxing to have a drink before being seated. The wait staff are always awesome & friendly, helping out with requests when they can.

Yum yum yum!

My earliest memory of Commonwealth Street was to have my eyes tested as a young child. These days the little street tucked between the city and Surry Hills is home to a plethora of wine bars and restaurants. And this highly awarded restaurant has occupied Commonwealth Street for several years now. The occasion was a birthday celebration and we decided to get there early as they do not take bookings for small groups. The restaurant is sleek with long, polished wooden tables and the chefs can be viewed in the middle of the restaurant working on the different dishes. We decided to go with the banquet. We began with the famous Betel leaf with ginger, chilli and crab. Then the equally famous eggnet with pork, prawn, peanut and coconut flavours. Superb. The highlight though was probably the Mussaman curry. A big hit with bite. This was followed up with the carmelised pork hock with five spice and chilli. There was broccoli and jasmine rice to accompany all of this. We found a bit of room for the most delicious dessert of coconut and fruit. A really wonderful place to enjoy good food with friends. The restaurant is class with quality. Good wines too.
