“Has gone downhill”
Reviewed July 5, 2014

This used to be a special place for my partner and I when we came to Sydney for a break from Newcastle but we haven't been for a couple of years. I'm not sure if the restaurant has changed hands but the menu choice seems to be smaller and more catering toward 'snacky' type menu items. The standard of the (once legendary) cocktails is pretty ordinary considering the $15 price tag. The service was pretty casual also - we asked the waiter for the drinks menu which he 'couldn't find one' for ten minutes. The food came out on time but was nothing special - certainly not to the standard of both our last visit and expected for a restaurant in a prestige location such as Darling Harbour waterside.

“Not a great experience”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

I wish I had read the previous reviews prior to purchasing a voucher to have dinner at this place. The voucher was advertised for $49-00 and supposedly valued at $159.00 which was a 3 course dinner for 2 and a bottle of wine. It's definitely not worth $159-00 and the wait of 2 hours for our meals to be served was over the top considering it was a quiet Monday evening.
We initially asked to sit outside to enjoy the ambience and water views however were told the heaters were out of gas so that wasn't an option.
Our entree was nice, an assortment of breads which was a good start. The main seafood platter was the most disappointing part of the night, all small servings and the taste wasn't good. Dessert however was quite nice however by the time it arrived 2 hours after starting our dinner, we were over it by then. It's a shame the food and service weren't better because this place could be good otherwise.

“If you are hungry don't risk it”
Reviewed May 25, 2014

"All you can WAIT bbq" would be a more appropriate name for this restaurant. It took us 1,5 hours to get our first skimpy morsels of meat. And it's not as if the restaurant was busy either - a handful of bored people. While keeping myself occupied with watching my fellow sufferers, it dawned on me that the long faces were the symptom of the long wait; hence the uplift in the mood of the place and a glimpse of hope at the sight of an odd waiter, who appeared to have lost his way, took a wrong turn and somehow found himself among the patrons. It's now been 2 hours since we arrived and the promise of manna is all but a promise (apart from a few corn chips and a couple of kid-sized plates of meat brought out).
This must be their business model as we are sick of waiting so now heading to Coles to get a bag of chips and call it a night!
If you are hungry don't risk it.

“Don't bother!”
Reviewed May 21, 2014

We went to La Cita on wednesday evening at 6.30pm. There were very few other customers but most, if not all (like us) had vouchers for discounted meals.
We were greeted on arrival and shown to a table. Water was brought immediately. We confirmed that we wanted the meat platter for 2 and sangria which was included.
After a while we were brought 6 canapés (3 each) which were excellent. The Sangria was also excellent. The food that followed was rubbish. It was almost cold so the best bit was the coleslaw!
One piece each of small portion of steak, spare rib, chicken, sausage and a wrap, served with cold solid carrot and broccoli.
I left most of my meal - it wasn't worth eating.
