“Affordable, very clean, quiet”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

Excellent budget accommodation. I needed affordable accommodation in Sydney at short notice. I wanted somewhere central, close to transport and safe (female travelling alone). To be honest, I was worried about arriving late at night to a smelly, seedy dive - I shouldnt have worried. Friendly service, non smoking rooms, secure, walking distance to Central Station, and a very cosy, clean room. I couldn't have asked for more. Yes, the window just looks out onto a brick wall - but I wanted a lovely, clean room and not a view. Which is exactly what I got.

All you could ask for in budget accommodation. Clean bed, clean sheets, clean towels, reasonable sized room.
Note: credit card incurs extra fees and they charge card on booking.
Much like a budget airline, all extras occur an additional fee (e.g. breakfast, baggage storage, laundry detergent, etc.).
The obvious things are included in the room fee (e.g. soap, shampoo and conditioner - in dispensers in bathroom & shower).

I stayed here for four nights in June, arriving on a Thursday through to Monday arvo. Nice room, more than enough space for one person as I was staying in a standard queen room. There was a window but no view, just straight onto another building, which meant not a lot of natural light came in to the room. As a result I had trouble waking up as early as I like to on holidays, so I get more done in a day's time.
Location was great, nice and close to Central station. Was not a problem catching a train from the airport to Central, then walking the block with my suitcase. I know I got a pretty sweet deal on the room as it only set me back $356 for the four nights. Not knowing what they normally charge for this room, if it was a fair bit more than the $79-$99 a night (weekday/weekends) I might change my mind on the value rating I gave.

The motel is fairly priced and you get what you pay for. The rooms are small dated and you are lucky if you have a window. That said the location is great rooms are quiet and beds are clean. So if u don't mind a no frills hotel that is close to everything u will do fine. Also not the crap $50 credit card $100 cash deposit in case you incurre expenses I found this rude and very unwelcome as others have mentioned.

THis hotel is near the Central Station, and is convenient if you are arriving in Sydney by train.

This hotel is nothing to shout about, but if all you need is just a place to sleep at night, this is quite a good location. It is about 100m away from Railway Square, which is just metres away from the busy George St, where you can catch buses just about to anywhere.

This is an important point. When you come out from the train platform (this will be Platform 23), make sure you get out of the station through the exit at Railway Square (You need to use the Devonshire underpass, or something like that. you will be able to recognise it cos the underpass is nicely tiled and has scenes of the old railway station).

When you get out, you should see Medina hotel/apartments and Mecure Hotel (these overlook Railway Sq), that tells you that you're on the right way : ) Move in that direction, and you should be ok.

The hotel is clean, and has only 6 floors in total. My husband and I had the superior room, which has a bit more room, and it's quite spacious. All in, I think it is value for money, the hotel also offers tea and coffee making facilities, and that's quite good, considering that I didnt pay much for the room.

It doesnt have a safe in the room, so you will need to lock your belongings. The room that I was staying in does not have a bathtub, only a shower cubicle, so if you're looking to bring your bath bubbles, you can leave them at home. : )
Room that I had was quiet, which is good as I am a light sleeper.

The train journey from the airport to the city is very convenient, and will only take about 15 min, although you will need to pay a gate pass on top of the normal fare.
You can get a MyMulti weekly pass (about AUD43), which will allow you to take ferries, buses, trains, light rail. To also use the shuttle to the airport and back, you will need to pay an additional approx. AUD17.

I read somewhere that you can save this extra AUD17 if you take the train from the airport to Mascot (one of the suburban stations), then walk about 300m to catch one one of the buses into the cities.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms which face the back street (Lee St, i think).

Regent St is situated quite near to George St, where you can easily catch buses and taxis.
The hotel is a 10mins short walk to Chinatown, Market City @ Haymarket area and 25mins walk to Darling Harbour.

The receptionist is quite friendly and helpful, able to give direction well. Can rent umbrella & international adaptor with a refundable deposit.

Quad room for 4 is not that huge, but big enough for a family of four. It has a double bed and a double decker with 2 single beds.

Room has basic needs such as kettle, hot shower, shampoo, shower gel, hair dryer.

Overall, if a family looking for budgeted accommodation, this can be considered as the price is cheaper than serviced apartments.

Very close to public transport only 30min walk to Darling Harbour, the rooms were very spacious, staff were very friendly, bathroom had a huge mirror which was good when you had a girls weekend and all of them want to do make-up at the same time. One down fall the pillows were not very good i would recommend take your own pillow.
