“Great place for a break”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

Wonderful location close to transport and China Town. Had 3 nights. The room was different floor plan it was long and thin, Had a King sized bed which was great firm mattress. The TV was too small in a small cube box which was different. But then your there for a holiday - not to watch TV all day. Room serviced daily. Bathroom spacious, good water pressure and the secure heavy door made it soundproof.

Good location, close to trains and buses, and in good walking distance to most things. Accommodation was open plan nothing flash but comfortable, room quite dark. Bathroom large no vanity, I small shelf only. Bathroom floor gets very wet after shower has been used, poor lighting.
Pleasant enough stay, easy check in, secure parking at an additional cost.

My first impression was not good. Arriving at 1pm I was told check in was at 2 and not to come back until after two. This is the first time I've encountered such an inflexible check-in policy - the hotels I've stayed at in Melbourne, around Italy, and in Egypt have been happy to help out when travel arrangements have meant I've arrived early. I've occasionally had to wait 15 minutes while they finished cleaning my room, but I've never been told to go away for arriving a hour early.

The room was adequate. Most importantly the bed was comfortable and the linen clean, but the rest of the furnishings and lighting left a lot to be desired. The chairs were quite grotty, there's a lot of dust, and I wasn't game enough to touch the tv remote. It didn't appear to have ever been cleaned.

Unlike others reviewers I found the bathroom to be very clean, and obviously recently refurbished, so either I have very lucky, or those negative reviews had an impact. The painted concrete floor isn't great, but not really a problem in summer (technically early autumn). I imagine it would be rather cold and inhospitable in winter, however.

I have stayed in worse places, but also much, much better at a similar price. Valentine on George is not a bad hotel, but if they truly believe they are worth more than three stars they are greatly deluded. If someone asked if they should stay here, I couldn't really recommend it.

We are frequent travellers & were more than satisfied with our stay of 5 days. It's not for those who like the generic chain type hotel. The hotel has only 13 rooms, we were on the 6th floor with 3 rooms. Our room was large with a very comfortable king size bed,. The bathroom was large & accessed by a long heavy sliding door. The room was soundproof, a big plus when so close to George St. It certainly had some quirky elements, the bedside tables were so low that the lamps shone too low for reading, the television was small, sitting on a small covered box, the room was darkly furnished, & the chandelier hanging just inside the door was covered with a plastic lampshade, the floor was painted concrete. There were no facilities for breakfast, maybe a toaster could be included. But the staff were helpful & friendly, & the location superb for confident travellers, 2 mins to bus on George St & less than a10 min easy walk to Central station & easy walking to Chinatown. Would we stay here again, most definitely.

I stayed here for a long weekend with a friend, I thought it was in quiet a decent location, You can walk anywhere when you are on George Street, Sydney!

The beds where very comfortable, and room was cleaned everyday. Although the room was very dark (even when you open the shutters) Being two girls we need light for our make up!

The TV Was very ancent and didnt know how to turn it off or on! The floor was bare painted concrete which didnt look bad, but just didnt feel like you where at home or at a hotel.

The admin/front desk did not know the area when we where looking for a gym. Being from another state, you hope that you can ask questions and they can give advise or options. There was a Jetts gym not to far up on George street which was $10.00 for casual fee.

The security of the building is good, you require your swipe card to get in/out of the building, You require the same card to use the elevator and to enter your room.

Booked in advance for a 3 dya weekend was not sure what to expect. The location is central to everything. The rooms are fine, could be improved for example no bedhead bed backs on to bear wall.Floor is bare painted concrete.TV is tiny old box style.Otherwise everything else was fine for the price paid in pricey Sydney.Being a small hotel,The manager multi- task but gets to everything in the end.He is both friendly & helpful.Would stay here again if price is right.

I stayed here with friends. We booked a Terrace room with two bedrooms and two bathrooms and a balcony. There was no kitchen or laundry.
The room was very small, but nice, well maintained except for the aircon, which didn't seem to work. The bathrooms are modern. The lounge room is very small, and there are NO comfy seats in it.
Parking is available at a good rate, but unload your luggage before you park as it is not part of the same building.
Its pretty expensive for the size.
