“Great mixture of cute and slithery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2007

I must say that I was not keen to visit Sydney Wildlife World - I love Taronga Zoo and its wonderful views over the harbour - but I ended up VERY impressed.

This zoo focuses only on Australian creatures - you start with the creepy crawlies, move on through the slithery things and then onto the cute and cuddly and things with wings.

There is great variety and a nice mix of exhibits you can look at through glass and exhibits to walk through and experience more closely - bird, butterfies, marsupials.

Don't miss the reptile show and koala photos on the roof and keep a look out for wandering keepers with creatures in their hands that you can learn about and pat. Also make sure that you have the Bluetooth turned on in your mobile (cell phone) as you are sent free pictures and facts as you wander through.

If you combined this with a visit to the Aquarium next door (there are discounted combination tix) you would have a very full day covering close to all Aussie creatures from land, water and air.

“It's not just for kids!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2007

My husband and I visited Sydney Wildlife World soon after moving to Sydney, on a relatively chilly weekend by Sydney standards when the appeal of doing something inside was much greater than usual.

It was the APEC weekend so many Sydneysiders had escaped the drama in the city, so we were able to march right up to the entrance, pay our admission fee and walk straight in. I wonder whether it will be the same in the height of summer, although possibly the seemingly steep entrance fee could scare away some punters. Personally I found it well worth the entrance fee.

You will probably need to put aside around 2-3 hours to do the whole attraction. We found it all very well presented, perticularly having visited the typically stuffy and traditional Australia Museum the week before. Wildlife World has loads of live exhibits to look at, and interesting educational information is available at every twist and turn. The whole attraction has been designed in such a way that they should find it easy to keep updating as it ages. There is plenty of interaction, so you remain stimulated around the whole exhibit, and the presentation is often novel.

I would definitely steer any visitors we have towards Sydney Wildlife World. I think kids would love it, but as adults we really enjoyed our visit too.

“Worthwhile”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2007

This attraction has been open for almost a year so I'm surprised to be the first to review it. We visited in July 2007. Sydney Wildlife World can best be described as an urban zoo. It's next door to the Aquarium in Darling Harbour (and run by the same company), which makes it very convenient if you want to see smaller Australian wildlife and don't have the time to visit Taronga Zoo. They have spiders, insects, reptiles, birds, wallabies, koalas and other small mammals and marsupials. We thought the exhibits were well-presented and very interesting, although it was a bit odd to see koalas against a highrise city backdrop!

If you plan to visit Wildlife World and the aquarium you can save money by buying your tickets online in advance.
