4 nights stay, a couple. Checked in and the rooms are tiny. Not the end of the world but it all helps when getting changed etc, no where to put cases so makes the room even smaller. We where out from 8am every day all day so this was bearable. The photos on the websites online are not a true indication of the room you will have. The whole
Hotel itself is very run down and looks dirty. Surprising from the entrance on the street which looks like it's had a fresh lick of paint. For around £200 for 4 nights for the 2 of us you can not beat that - walking time to operah house is 30 mins. Location is great in Potts point - a few dodgy bars etc but like anywhere else! Would I stay again, no, but would stay in the area and pay a little more. You get what you pay for.

Stayed at Macleay Lodge recently for 4 nights. Had a single room on the ground floor at the back of the hotel. The room was clean but dated and there was no view from the window that looked into an internal alley way.
Within the room there was a sink, microwave, fridge, kettle, crockery and cutlery which was great at there is a supermarket just up the road where you can stock up on supplies and save yourself some money.
There are 2 showers located on the ground floor which are cleaned on a regular basis, one of them is really small but this is no problem, the rooms are also not cleaned daily.
All staff seemed welcoming and happy to help.
I would stay here again when visiting Sydney, give it a go :)

Room Tip: I hear the rooms are better further up.

The best things Macleay Lodge has going for it are location and price.

My wife and I booked on Orbitz. Checkin went easily enough. The place has sort of an odd layout. Our room number was 15 (I think) and was on the 2 1/2 floor. It had oddly high ceilings. The window opened . Bathrooms are shared and small, but sufficient if you don't mind that sort of thing.

Room itself has (vinyl?) tile floor. Our room had 2 beds--a single and a double, a sink, counter top, microwave, minifridge, and electric kettle for tea. No air conditioning, but a ceiling fan. There was a window that lead out to someone else's porch (complete with table and chairs), so we felt uncomfortable leaving the window unlocked, or shade up once it became night, which made the room warmer. There was a closet cabinet, and finally a TV with cable.

All in all, I feel the room would be okay for a night or two, but I'd seek something more comfortable for a prolonged stay.

This was a great location for my short stay in Sydney, right in the middle of Potts Point. It's only a short walk to Kings Cross train station, or a lovely 30 minute walk in to Central Station. The room was very small, as were the bathrooms, but I wouldn't expect otherwise at that price. As I was only really at my accommodation to sleep, it was the perfect match for my budget.

Stayed here in September 2013 for 2 nights in a room with a balcony. Room was clean, nice details, artwork, old fireplace. Mattresses are cheap but good enough, sheets are crisp and clean. Receptionist was very helpful. Location is unbeatable. Price is ideal.

Room Tip: Choose the balcony room if available.

The staff were very helpful and help me with some tourist visits. They even did the bookings for me. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Would stay there again for sure. Although the hotel is not close in the city it is just a short walk away and central enough to visit all the tourist places.

We booked this "hotel" seven months before the Bristish Lions tour of Australia and four monthe before requested twin rooms as we had mistakenly booked doubles. On arrival we were told by the receptionist that we were staying in the ground floor rooms at the back and when I objected through reading previously bad reviews on these rooms I was quoted."My brother-in-law is Welsh and he says you won't mind staying in rooms like this. This is bordering on a racist comment and didn't start our trip off at all well.I slept on a mattress directly on the floor for 7 nights. The rooms were as dark as prison cells and a solar heat recovery unit was the view I had to endure.During the stay I checked one afternoon where the fire exit led because we were all worried and an alarm went off which had to be reset. There were bare wires on a fan unit and a curtain pole fell on a friends head when he drew the curtains. He had to insist that he be entered into the accident book and then it aws done reluctantly. This hotel is a disgrace and certain aspects of it are in my professional opinion as H&S advisor are unsafe as you can see by the pics posted.I dare say there will be a counter post but we have evidence both filmed and pictorial and will be taking it further with Sydney licencing authorities.
