“Good value for the money”
Reviewed December 23, 2011

Great location and very clean. The light rail is close, the 311 bus stops almost at your door and there is a great grocery store just down the street. Plenty of money exchanges and cheap restaurants up the road towards King's Cross… an easy walk. The staff was tremendously helpful and there was plenty of hot water. It did lack charm. The view from my window was a dilapidated courtyard and there was some noise. If you plan on eating in bring a real knife. The grocery had great bread which we butchered trying to cut with the dinner knives provided. If I am lucky enough to return I would definitely consider staying there again.

Room Tip: Don't get a room on the road.

Really enjoyed staying here -- good location, easy to walk to Kings Cross station or through the Botanic Gardens and down to the centre of town. Lots of nice cafes/bars nearby. Quiet location. Great having own fridge/microwave etc. and shared bathrooms nearby so not really a problem.

We arrived quite early from our flight and the lady at check in was able to arrange for us to have a room there and then at no extra cost which was good ---- we would have been happy to drop off our bags and come back later but this was even better.

Relatively reasonably priced too (I think it possibly seemed slightly more expensive than I'd envisioned simply because of the strong Australian dollar via the pound.)

Would stay there again.

We are a couple and booked a family room for ourselves. Great room, large and clean.

The shared bathroom was very clean too. Although it must be said that te floor on which we were was not very busy when we were there.

Service was excellent too. Super friendly staff.

Our only problem is that our room, facing the street, suffered from a very loud street. You can say this is normal for a city, but we disagree. The isolation on the windows was very poor and even though we were on the third floor, it seemed we were sleeping next to the cars.

The wall to our neighboring room was very thin and you could ear everything.

All doors on our floor slammed quite hard when closen, so things go loud and uncomfortable as people started waking up and going to the showers.

These things can be solved easily with some investment in better doors and isolating the windows, but the hotel just told us its normal when one lives in the city.

Apart from the noise issue, everything else was excellent.

I stayed here following a conference dinner at Wollomooloo Harbour. Good location, easy walk to many places. Would recommend for young, fit people who can easily carry luggage themselves - though the staff offered to help carry my stuff, there is still a very narrow flight of stairs. Faint musty/bathroom type of smell on the top floor, but not noticeable in the room. Overall met expectations for the price, would stay here again if I am in the area.

I stay at Macleay Lodge often as I come to Sydney on business a few nights a week. The staff are helpful, efficient and absolutely lovely. The location is fantastic - away from the noise of the Cross but close to cafes, restaurants, galleries and transport. It is basic accommodation - shared bathrooms and small rooms - but quiet & comfortable.

We stayed here twice in October, and after visiting other places in Australia for similar money I was disappinted with what I got for my money, we stayed in 2 different rooms with shared bathrooms, all were clean especially the shared bathrooms! The rooms were damp though, which showed on the rust on the fridges. The staff were ok but nothing to call home about.we were quite close to kings cross which was worrying if you had to walk through on a night. all in all a ok but basic stay, if your paying less than $50!
