Sydney Harbour Bed and Breakfast

Recently we had really good experiences with B&B-s, their informal approach to lodging lets you a better understanding to local living... So we checked the reviews here and went for BB Sydney Harbour.

We spent there 4 nights in January, larger family. The location is really excellent, rooms are good size and nicely furnitured, hospitality was great (Jeff is a nice guy, did really his best), and we really enjoyed the perfecly made breakfasts in the garden.

What disappointed me was the unexpectedly low level of cleaningness. Dust in the rooms, dirty bedspread, and i was really wondering when was the last time the room had a proper wash up... We had to share a bathroom with the other room on the floor (we were together so no problem with that), which was not really a newly refurbished one. This usually means, that any untidiness has a multiplied uncomfort effect, what we sadly experienced, because our bathroom was very-very poorly cleaned as we arrived, and got only worse during the week...

However it could be a really excellent BB, great value for money, IF they hired a good housemaid, and paid more attention to cleaning...

We were at the end of a three week trip to Australia and New Zealand and happened to arrive back in Sydney on the day of the Mardi Gras parade. Finding a room proved to be very difficult, but Sydney Harbour B&B offered us the Parkes suite (there were four of us) which we accepted with gratitude. The best thing about Sydney Harbour B&B is undoubtedly its location. Right in the middle of the Rocks area. Absolutely fantastic. A $30 cab ride from the airport. The suite itself was somewhat basic, but as we only wanted a bed for the night after a late evening flight in from Cairns we were not all all fussy. Breakfast was great, sitting outside in the patio area. We didn't get to see the other rooms, so it is difficult for us to comment properly on the Parkes suite (three rooms that run into one another with a bathroom in the middle). It may be OK for a family but is not ideal for friends, but we knew what we were letting ourselves in for as we had been told about the layout. Not ideal for a longer stay or if you want privacy. We were looked after well by Jeff and greatly appreciated his hospitality and helpfulness.

This is a great B&B close to city and handy to everything. I loved the 1930's style rooms which fit the building and the Rocks prefectly. The rooms were spotless. I will be visting again.

We stayed here for 4 nights over new year.

The hotel is fabulous in every respect...location is great, right in the rocks so you can walk to the ferry, train, harbour bridge, opera house, restaurants, cafes and bars etc. The rooms were spacious, light, clean and had everything you could need.
The staff are really friendly, Jeff couldn't have done more and really made our stay complete.

The breakfast was lovely, sitting outside to eat was great and really made it feel like a holiday. On the cold mornings we sat around the big breakfast table where everyone was so friendly too.

We stayed at some 5 star hotels on our holiday but this little B&B was our favourite residnce, we hope to return one day...

This B+B is in the Rocks which is the best area of Sydney as far as I am concerned. Its location is perfect with a short walk to the harbour area.

Staff were generally helpfull and the breakfast was pretty good. You will not beat this place for value considering where it is.

We did notice a couple of cockroaches on the stairs the first night we were there but this is to be expected being such an old building. Most of the hotels we stayed at in sydney had netting over the windows to stop bugs etc getting in. This place could do this. 1st night we were there we came back to find a full size huntsman spider on the wall which did little for the nerves!!

All in all a great place to stay.

Just a short review to balance some of the rose-tinted viewed ones on here.

My wife and I spent 3 or 4 days in Sydney and stayed at this B & B for those days.

Location is, admittedly, very good, however for those wanting to save some money in the future, they are in the process of building a new YHA next door to it.

The breakfast was average at best, the cooked breakfast comes as 1 of everything - 1 tomato, sausage, slice of bacon; not that filling if ou want to fuel up and then catch a late lunch so you can make the best of Sydney. Also, no peanut butter of any sort - a hanging offence!

That's the only negatives really, staff, the dog, the house itself are all good, I just wanted to point out some flaws to give a balanced view to fellow travellers.

Bed & Breakfast Sydney Harbour is in a great location and serves a great breakfast. On the days we were there the dining room was a bit crowded, but the other guests were interesting to talk to and the breakfast was good and filling. We had a choice of eggs any style, with bacon, cereal and fresh fruit. The location for the B & B is in "The Rocks" which is close to the opera house, and right by Sydney Harbour bridge. You can walk to lots of restaurants and shops, as well as the ferries, or bus. The rooms are very basic. There is no decoration. The Phillip Room was dark, and more quiet. We switched room during our stay, and had teh room across the hall which had expressway noice and a lot of light coming in from the hall.
