Owner description: Located by the Royal Botanic Gardens, the bench known as Mrs. Macquarie's Chair was carved out of sandstone in the early 1800s for Govenor Lachlan Macquarie's wife, Elizabeth. It became her favorite spot to look upon the harbour and serves that same purpose today for visitors who take a moment to rest there.

“Go for the photos!”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

Mrs Macquarie's Chair is just fine. But the real deal here is the beautiful photos you can capture with both the Opera House and the Sydney Harbor Bridge in the background. Stunning. Beautiful walk to get there from the Opera House. Go! Now!

“Just a bench :/”
Reviewed January 21, 2014

Mrs. Macquarie's Chair is just a little bench carved on a stone. It's not much of a great monument but the view from the location is just amazing because you get to see both the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.

“Most beautiful views of the gardens”
Reviewed January 19, 2014

This point and the surrounding area truly offered the most beautiful views in the Royal Botanic Gardens. We took some great photos of the Harbour with the Opera House and Bridge in the background. If you're in the gardens, don't miss the views from Mrs Macquaries Chair and the surrounding area!!

“Amazing walk and view”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

Great walk through the Botanic Gardens to get there and it is worth every minute. The views of the harbour , bridge and Opera House are superb. The nearby St. George Open Air Cinema is the best way imaginable to watch a good movie (saw Wolf of Wall street) in the most amazing atmosphere and city backdrop. Amazing to find such open air spaces and parkland so close to a large city.

“If you go to Sydney, you have to go here.”
Reviewed January 1, 2014 via mobile

Even if just to get that iconic photo with the opera house and harbour bridge in the background. You can't leave Sydney without seeing it.
