Owner description: Located by the Royal Botanic Gardens, the bench known as Mrs. Macquarie's Chair was carved out of sandstone in the early 1800s for Govenor Lachlan Macquarie's wife, Elizabeth. It became her favorite spot to look upon the harbour and serves that same purpose today for visitors who take a moment to rest there.

“Great photo spot”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

I did a sunset photo shoot with a tripod. fantastic! Beware to not take a photo of one person--you will be swarmed after. Arrive 30 minutes before sunset for a good spot.

“Best View of Sydney Harbour”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

This is from where you get those iconic postcard pictures of Sydney Harbour Bridge together with Sydney Opera House in the foreground. This is from where the best photos of New Years Eve fireworks are taken. You can walk to here during the day and its all free. Walk through the Botanic Gardens from the Opera House for magnificent views of Sydney's Harbour.

Lovely place for a stroll or picnic on a good day, but definitely not recommended for inclement weather!

“A 3 minute visit as part of the Botanical Gardens”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

This is not an attraction in and of itself. it is a nice area of the Gardens, high up with great harbor views, and an old stone "chair" built into the stones
