It started off life as a racecourse in colonial/convict times but has matured in to an oasis of elegant ficus trees, monumental sculptures and fountains, the beautiful Sandringham Gardens (named for Kings George V and VI, and opened by Queen Elizabeth II), and the impressive and sombre War Memorial with its giant reflecting pool.

Surrounded by the old Mint, Hyde Park Barracks,St Mary's Cathederal the park has a long history. It also contains the war memorial. The city circle underground railway passes beneath parts of it. Nice for a lunchtime stroll

A large park which runs through the centre of the Sydney CBD. The war memorial at the south end is well worth a visit.

Hyde Park is always a delight to stroll through or sit awhile enjoying the lovely gardens and watching the passing parade! It has the Archibald Fountain at the northern end and the moving Anzac Memorial with the reflecting pool in front of it, at the southern end of the park. Another lovely corner of the park is the wisteria pergola and the adjoining pretty flower beds and small fountain square...from here there is a beautiful view of St Marys Cathedral....and this section of the park is especially worth a visit in September/October.
It is especially interesting to visit Hyde Park in the month of October when the Art and About Festival is on in the city, and the annual exhibit of large photographs, Sydney Lives, takes place along the Central Walkway, and nearby Little Sydney Lives (photographs taken by our youngest) exhibition takes place under the wisterial pergola. Also in October, Hyde Park hosts the Noodle Market as part of the Crave Food Festival.
Hyde Park is a wonderful, integral and popular part of our city and its daily life. So be sure to visit and enjoy it and especially so if you are here in our spring!

Such a lovely park. The war memorial / museum is very touching and worth a look..(it's free) Again it was unfortunate to see bums passed out / on side of the street. Again not a place to be after dark
