Town Hall is viewed by many Sydneysiders as merely a convenient meeting point. Especially in early evening there is often a multitude of people on the steps in front of this lovely building waiting to meet friends or some significant other.

The lovely aspect of this is that it is such an easily recognisable building, has a train station practically underneath that has connects to most every train line in the city and is across the road from the Queen Victoria Building.

Strangely enough many of the people who are at Town Hall every day will rarely even look at the building. Or ever enter it. For the international tourist there is little special to see here, it is just a nice building that is old by Australian standards. But it is pleasant and as mentioned, is a very centrally located spot.

Town Hall offers everything you need, from travel to entertainment, to shopping to dining. Close to all harbour side attractions, & a short stroll for public transport.
Can't be beat. Love it .

Sydney Town Hall stands on the site of the Sydney burial ground. While some bodies were removed to allow for its erection in the 1880s, some graves have been found in recent years when work has been done under and around the Town Hall. When used as a burial ground there were no exact records kept so where remains ended up is often a mystery.

This sombre history of the site belies the majestic beauty of the exterior of the Hall, and a walk to the top of the steps at the main entrance can give a hint of what it must feel like to attend a gala event here.

If you're walking by...go in. But if you aren't there, don't make a special trip. No vale.
They have tours, but apparently must be pre booked.

The Sydney Town Hall is opposite the Queen Victoria Building. It is an important icon, and an example of sandstone architecture

This building still being used for the same purpose for which it was built.

A lot of history detail available on the Town Hall website.

Go to a free lunchtime Organ Recital (check the web).
