“Interesting architecture”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

I spent most of the day exploring down this street. Started at Hyde Park where I had breakfast outdoor. Then to the Barracks at the top of Macquarie Street. Walk to Parliament House for a look see. Then State Library - great little coffee shop hidden around behind it. Through the Botanic Gardens and Mrs Macquaries Chair. Lunch in the Gardens. Afternoon tour of the Opera House and a beer at the Orient Hotel in the Rocks to cap off the day. Just terrific

“So much in this area”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Leading up from the Opera House this is an interesting street with the Botanical Gardens, NSW State Library, Sydney Hospital, Parliament House, The Barracks. I'm sure you'll wander up here when you visit Sydney. The shopping areas are a street behind Macquarie Street. Was once the very heart of the medical specialist practice community.

“Drab but could be amazing”
Reviewed February 6, 2013

The buildings in Maquariie Street are beautiful. Loved the mint and the cafe there but the streeet is generally drab . Needs more colour to show off the amazing buildings.

“A lively street with plenty of historic buildings.”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

Avoid the hustle and bustle of George Street and Pitt Street, which, after all, are not much different from shopping streets the whole World over.

At least MacQuarie street has some good historic buildings, a park, and is a good walk towards Circular Quay.

“Interesting Mix”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

There is old and and new on this street, but it is worth walking the length of the street to see all the various old building. Be sure to keep an eye out for the brass plates in the ground the tell the story of many of the buildings and the history of Sydney.
