Centennial Park is used and loved by many locals. Being fairly close to the city and a short walk from Paddington's terrace houses, art galleries and Saturday markets, it is a great place for tourists to relax as well. Its lawns and gardens are kept beautifully and there are quiet areas of native trees and lakes with birds. Take a picnic or visit the cafe or restaurant. If you are missing your dog, join the dogs playing on the outside of the circular road, or if you are a horse rider, prearrange to hire a horse from the centennial equestrian centre and ride on the track around the park. There is a cycling track and a walking/jogging track too. Entry to the park is free. Stay an hour or a day.

Staying in Sydney for some time and want to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban life? If so, consider spending a little time relaxing in Centenniel Park. Situated in the Eastern Suburbs, this public park occupies some 220 hectares and is a great place to unwind. It provides a safe environment for families but do be careful as there are unfenced lakes, where a myriad of bird-life can be fed. Terrapins and catfish will also surface to take your bread. The road circuit around and bisecting the park has a strict speed limit and there are plenty of parking spaces. Access to this and the huge green areas is entirely free. It is on a bus route too. The park is good for a stroll, a cycle ride and particularly good for picnics. Even on the hottest day a shady spot can be found. While there are excellent childrens' play areas, including a level off-road track, where kids can learn to ride a bike or scooter, there is an abundance of open space so it isn't at all crowded. Public toilets are also on hand. Altogether, an oasis of calm in a busy city.
