“Enough to get lost in”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Lovely place to be with so much space; it's a great place to go relax or even to play some sports on the ovals throughout the grounds. One of the few places to go horse riding around the city too and is similarly good for bike riders.

“English-style park in the city”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

The weather was bad one day so we drove around here for a look. Lovely to see and I imagine it would be beautiful in the sunshine. Big areas with lakes and European style gardens.

“What a park!”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

This is heaven. What a place. You can ride a bike, roller blade, ride a horse, walk, visit the cafe/restaurant. Beautiful trees, landscaping, wildlife. A very well cared for park. Take the 380, 378 from the city and get off at the intersection of Queen Street, Woollahra, and Oxford Street. Let the driver know, he will be more than happy to stop there. Not far from the city in Sydney's East.

“White cockatoos & Charles Dickens welcome at Centennial Parklands”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

I'm home in Sydney after 4 weeks away on a US book tour and need to refresh in Centennial Parklands. White cockatoos flock to the island sanctuaries in the idyllic ponds graced by black swans and ducks. There are wildlife sanctuaries in the midst of this Victorianna parkland with its formal rose gardens and floral displays. There are areas of huge weeping willows and morton bay figs among bushland enclaves. I love the wetland track. Dickens Drive holds a secret - the statue of Charles Dickens. There are only 2 in the world. One in Philadelphia and one here in Centennial Parklands Sydney. Charles Dickens said people had to know him through his writing/books, not images. However both the USA and Australia are renegades and there are the statues. There are statues and turn of the century gun posts and surprising hands on art experiences among the bicycle, horse and pedestrian tracks. It's a national parkland in the heart of Sydney, much like Central Park NY or Hyde Park London except it is Australian with bats, cockatoos, all sorts of coloured birds. There's always something on - a music event, moonlight cinema, a dog rally day, food fair ... something. I took my picnic lunch and some mineral water, lay on a grassy hills and let it all soak in while jet-lag dissipated. Then I wandered over the road for coffee at the Victorianna Hughenden Hotel sitting on the front porch looking at the beautiful sandstone Paddington gates.
