“Ideal Location and Very Clean/Neat”
Reviewed July 28, 2010

Great location on Pitt Street although you will think you have landed in Hong Kong by mistake! This place is ideal for those with more than three kids who need three bedrooms at a reasonable price. This is keenly priced but is not low rent in its upkeep. It has everything a family trip would need. The washer and dryer are great so yu can leave with no huge bag of dirty laundry. The beds a little hard but not the end of the world. The view from the 44th floor is great but even up there Sydney has one noisy group of cops who seem intent on playing with their sirens all though the night which is strange as Sydney is not a problem place for crime on anyones map.

The locals when you find them away from the Chinatown area and tourists are very typical capital city types (yes we all know the capital is technically canberra but who goes there!). Mostly young, high disposable income want to show off in restaurants etc. Lots of those at the beaches even in the dead of winter. There is a serious issue with drink driving in Australia so if you hire a car and drive outside the city take care. The police can and do stop anyone for no reason to breathalyze them with good cause. Australians are also very aggressive when in a car. They will drive you off the road if they think you are too slow yet their road manners with respect to speed limits couldn't be better. Again the police and due to the low crime rate they are retentive about traffic offences and totally stupid about parking. Don't try talking to rangers. Firstly they will likely be immigrants and speak fractured English, second they don't ask for nor respect apologies so don't waste your breath, save it for the breathalyzer, you will get one of those too.

The hotel has good underground parking but it is very expensive at 35 AUD day. On balance its worth it of you need to travel out of Sydney. Be very careful with the TAG system for the freeways. They levy HUGE fines if you don't phone in to pay within 48 hours. Again no flexibility and stupidly no way to pay by cash. Totally stupid system and very typucaly Australian like the cross city tunnel that cost a fortune and no one needed It's a North South city dummy!!

Places to go well you ca walk to most from Pitt Street. It is a gorgeous city if a little over the top with its own wonderfullness. Don't bother looking for news as you won't find any. If you like a laugh look a the TV ... it's hilarious for five minutes. No wonder everyone lives outside and pays a fortune to see the harbour. Central Sydney can be seen on foot in a day and you can finish it off by taking a ferry to Manley for dinner and back. Avoidthe observation tower, a total waste of cash as is the comedy monorail but strolling around you can see darllng harbour bridge; wildlife sanctuary and opera houes; botanical gardens in one walk.

Do NOT use the city convenience stores which appear to be a huge rip off but this block is right next to Woolworths (not the UK/US place but a simple supermarket shop with food etc). Its a great city and this is a great place to stay.

One caveat, he gym is atrocious (no air con and I can't imagine what it smells like in summer) and the pool is tiny. Both strangely on a floor let out to English language schools and places for migrants to prepare for their naturalisation interviews. Very odd!

A week in Sydney with an 16 year old girl doing work experience and an 11 year old daughter just hanging out with Mum....... I booked in April for a July visit and got great rates for a two bedroom serviced self contained apartment. Wasn't intending to cook but breakfast is not something I want to pay to eat out for so that toaster and kettle came in handy for the light breakfast. Two minutes from a 4 level supermarket means that if you do want to cook there is nothing you can't eat. It is such a busy city however, there is a million eating out choices - you can even see McDonalds from the street (unfortunately!) I paid a little extra and got a sky view (49th floor) an amazing view for those who like heights. With a washer and dryer I didn't come home with any dirty clothes - love that. We swam in the pool and played billiards nearly every day. I didn't get to the gym - oh well. The lifts seem slow but there are 51 floors so it takes a while. The staff were so friendly and very helpful with transport information; internet at $5.00 an hour seemed fair to me as I was just checking emails. The rooms made up daily when it suited us, which was great when we slept in. I don't get out much but I was really impressed. Well done

We made a reservation based on a few criteria.
1) We could have a view of something
2) We could have a balcony
3) We could have a REAL king bed and not two singles pushed together

Obviously, they can not guarantee the first two, but I was told the beds are REAL kings.

SO - We check in. We are on the 22nd floor (which is actually the 11th because there are 11 floors of parking below ground level) and the only view we have is of a grey office block. Street noise is a bother at that height. Then I am told that balconies are locked on Fri and Sat night for safety reasons. Then I realise our bed is in fact two singles pushed together. Then we ask for a late check out, only to be told that it's $50 per hour after 10am for a late checkout.

The heater/air con is too loud to sleep with it on and because of the way the studio rooms are set up you can hear everyone's doors opening and closing (hard) all morning and night.

Apart from all that the rooms etc were actually quite nice (although carpet would have been nicer than tiles).

What a bummer. Never again.

I have made MANY trips to Sydney with young children over the last few years and stayed in lots of apartments but none have been better than the Meriton Serviced Apartments Pitt Street. My husband and our 3 young children stayed in a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment. Here's what we thought;

Pros
* Spacious
* Spotlessly clean
* Well appointed (even washing powder and dishwasing liquid was replaced daily)
* Fantastic indoor pool and separate spa
* Convenient to ALL Sydney has to offer eg. literally around the corner from Monorail station, train station, restaurants, cafes, Woolworths Supermarket. or an easy walk to attractions like Darling Harbour.
* Windows are all double glazed so street noise is minimal (note that we were on the 34th floor).
* New building (2004)
* Fast elevators
* Friendly and helpful staff
* Absolute VALUE at only $190 a night - couldn't believe we got a near-new, spacious, spotless, 2 bedroom apartment in the middle of Sydney for this price! (We booked direct after looking up quikbeds, wotif, etc. and the hotel bettered their price).

Cons
* No blankets on beds (only sheets and a VERY paper-thin doona) this was inadequate at night time in winter in Sydney. Also seeing as the Air Conditioner (on the 'heat' setting turned off automatically after 4 hours - we woke up cold at night and someone always had to get up to turn the heat on again).
* Although we didn't use it as we flew to Sydney, I think the only other negative would be that they charge $35 for car parking but if you can secure a great rate like we did, it's still cheap.
Other than this it was PERFECT and we will definitely be staying there again when we return to Sydney in the future.

We found this hotel's service definitly not 5 star. There was no hot water for a bath or for the swimming pool area - most dissappointed.
And while there were porters standing around, not one came forward to assist us with our luggage (which at times, we were struggling with).

Very happy with these apartments. Beautifully furnished and clean++. Not the greatest view but otherwise perfect with young kids. Well stocked kitchenette for those who want to cook on site, and lots of places to eat within a block if you want to eat out. We had no car, and found it very easy to get to the apartments via train from the airport (even with a busy 3 year old and 8 month old) We found the cheapest deal was through the meriton website itself. Highly recommeded and would def. stay there again.
