You have to seek for Marys but seek and you shall find a gem. The atmosphere in the bar is uber trendy - good wine list, beers and cocktails. You dont come here a gourmet dinner - the menu is limited to burgers, fried chicken and bangers and mash. You come here to drink (and they have bubbles by the glass!) and for the most awesome burger - american style (think Posh McDonalds). Soft burger bun, slimline pattie and your options are the Cheeseburger a la McD burger style or the Marys burger- aka your whopper style. Add a side of trashcan bacon and prepare to be delighted! Thin salty french fries are the perfect accompaniment. We loved it- more please! We just sat in the bar although upstairs is table service. Get in quick, this place gets busy!

Anyone who says the burgers at Mary's aren't amazing surely don't know what they're talking about. It's extremely hard to find a burger out there that is made properly, made using a mix of the right cuts of beef makes all the difference, topped with a (presumably house made) spiced pickle and the usual condiments or if you go for the Mary's burger (which I generally do) that addictive tangy sauce makes it hard for me to alter my usual order.

This is a place I'd gladly hang around in for a few pints of Young Henry's thanks to the casual atmosphere, good music and the ALWAYS friendly staff.
Having visited Mary's an unrecallable amount of times, I can say that they're quite consistent in quality and service. The only set back is the wait time if you go during peak dinner hours weekends and to an extent the rest of the week.

We tend to go early 5:00pm-6:30pm which always avoids any line up. One you have a table upstairs, you're set for as long as you want with table service by some great staff.

I believe at the moment they're quite restricted by the council to the number of people allowed inside at any one time, so they hire a bouncer during the more popular hours to keep on top of it.
I'm not the type to line up for any bar or club but I will certainly do so for good food, so if you do find yourself outside in the cue of burger enthusiasts anxiously awaiting an affirmative nod from the bouncer to head on in, just think of the deliciousness that awaits.

Oh and try the fried chicken! Better than any I've ever had before.

What's with all these reviews in time out etc saying best burgers? Felt like I had bought a McDonald's burger and fries for $18. Plus they forgot the bacon.
Girl behind bar was good but main guy with big beard looked like he was coming down off something and hating every minute. Rude and obnoxious.
Wine list good though slightly overpriced but wouldn't mind paying if service was better.

Nice venue but let down by over-hype and sub quality food

Mary's is in an unassuming place off the Main Street of Newtown.
The unmarked doors shouldnt put you off...with the security guard and long line. It's easy to find.
You will have to wait for table service no matter what day or time you go. But it's worth the wait.
The burgers are the best I've ever had. I've been here several times now and it never misses the mark. The brioche buns, juicy patty and BBQ flavour from the grill make it perfection. It's easy to eat and full of flavour with each bite. The mash and gravy and chicken are great sides even though the burgers come with fries.
This place us a must go!

On a cold rainy Saturday afternoon this place hit the spot.

Situated in a refurbished pool hall this inner west gem delivered on all levels.

I had their renowned burger with double patties cheese and smoked bacon. Great meat with mixture if brisket chuck and rump. I love my burgers and to be honest if you can find a better one in town send me the address cause this is top notch.

Side serve of fries and a half fried chicken pieces topped off the meal. As a Micro brewery there was a great selection of interesting beers. I washed down with a Tasmanian brew called moo brew! A dark stout perfect for my burger and chicken feast.

In short. Check this place out. Great good drink and atmosphere. Open till late too. What not to like about that !!!!
