Dined here after reading a piece in the Sydney morning herald on the top 5 tapas restaurants in Sydney. Having eaten at 2 of the top 5 already, we thought we'd try Despaña, and we weren't disappointed. Delicious food, friendly staff and very reasonably priced. We'll be back regularly

I have now found my new favourite Sydney restaurant !!!! My family and I love Spanish food and this is the best example of tapas outside of Barcelona (...Bellota in Auckland is a close second). There are many Spanish restaurants in Glebe now. Some good, some OK, and a couple that are just plain awful. Despana blows all of these out of the water and sets the standard very high for all other others to follow. Despana serves up good honest tapas with amazing attention to culinary detail. Amazing flavours and textures in every dish. We ordered 5 tapas between the four of us along with Catalin cream and churos to round off the night. Every dish was outstanding and the cost is very reasonable. The staff are great and made us feel very welcome. We will be back and plan on becoming regulars at Despana :-)

Went here on a trip to Sydney with my relatives who are 'locals' but hadn't eaten here before. The food and venue were very nice and seems very authentic. The light fittings are wine bottles and there are some lovely pictures and other artifacts to have a look at. The food was delicious and well served. We had ordered several tapas items and they were brought in two separate intervals and well timed (not sure if this was deliberate or just how it rolled on the night). Food was well priced.

It was very busy whilst we were there and another couple came and ordered next to us. They had waited quite a while, when the waitress brought two or three incorrect dishes. The couple patiently advised the waitress and they were taken away. The manager then came and spoke to them, apologising that there had been a mix up with their order. The couple were given the option of eating what had been incorrectly cooked for them for free or wait for their correct order. The manager was very apologetic, and the couple opted for the already cooked meals. Whilst this was an error, I really do believe that it is how you deal with these types of issues that really makes good customer service.

Bought a groupon voucher for this restaurant and went along with no expectations and came away very nicely surprised. Its along a stretch of Glebe Pt Rd that has a range of restaurants, cafes and eateries, overall a very nice vibe. The restaurant itself is quaint, nice lighting (bright enough to read and see but with warm amber tones) and although a little cramped (tables were very close to one another and its easy to hear what the next table is saying) but all lends to the Euorpean style ambience. Nice timber top tables and touches of Spain in the decor, we were all set for a nice meal and Despana lived up to this. The tapas was excellent (octopus, meatballs, mushrooms, potatoes were cooked beautifully and as good as I have had in Spain). Our paella main course was also good a chock full of clams, mussells and prawns. We had a jug of sangria with our meal which was also a good thirst quencher. We were too full to try dessert but will leave that for next time!

What made the experience special was the staff. Friendly, helpful and service with a smile - all made you feel welcome. Visited the loos and passed by the kitchen which had big open windows and the kitchen crew were very friendly too - all smiles and they definitely seemed happy cooking (happy chefs cooking with love is always a good indicator of good food!)

Was happy to note the restaurant does breakfast and lunch too. Definitely will be back and their prices were very reasonable too. A gem of a place.
