“Friday night drink while passing thru”
Reviewed April 23, 2014 via mobile

A dinner and drinks here. Didnt think much of the menu upstairs. They serve flank as steak (normally used in casseroles) no sirlion or porterhouse or fillet. The history of this pub is great the bar staff were friendly and fast. (We were there on a friday night)

“great family lunch and free Easter choco eggs ”
Reviewed April 23, 2014 via mobile

Upstairs for family with kids (5 year old). Great food, reasonable price, and friendly staff. The Sonoma garlic beard was delicious, as well as the mussels. Gave free choco eggs to my daughter. I will definitely go back on my next to trip to Sydney...... If no kids go downstairs to absorb the pub culture.

“Drunk abusive locals- AVOID”
Reviewed April 20, 2014 via mobile

Went seeking a great pub lunch at the oldest establishment in Sydney. The food was great but- the local clientele was shocking and started yelling and insulting my parents for no reason- and management did nothing. At a point we were scared the men at the bar were going to start a fight ( and my dad is 69 and my mom 64) so they were minding their own business- avoid this pub even though it is famed- not worth it, especially if you value your well being. Shame on the managers

“A Walk back in History”
Reviewed April 12, 2014

I visited The Fortune of War Pub, in Sydney in February 2014. Its the Oldest Pub in Sydney, been there since 1828. Its a real interesting place, loads of charactor. The staff are friendly, the food available was very good, and decent prices. Good choice of beers and other drinks. Eating area at the main bar, and additional restaurant areas. Will certainly be calling these again on my next call in Sydney.

“Sydney's Best Pub Grub”
Reviewed April 11, 2014

If you happen to be at George Street, The Rocks, Sydney at lunch time and you are looking for some really good pub grub then I would strongly recommend Fortune of War Pub, Sydney's oldest pub dating back to 1828. Food is served at the first level of the pub while drinks are at ground level.

FREE WiFi
They have a good range of food and drinks. Eight of us popped in for lunch. There is a free flow of lemon-flavoured water and WiFi is also free. Just ask for their complementary voucher for the password.

GOOD FOOD
Six of us ordered the fish and chips. The battered fish was Barramundi with herbs. The chips were actually hand-cut potato wedges. There was also fresh vegetable salad on the side. It was a hearty meal. All six of us ordered the fish and chips and we unanimously agreed that it was great. The fish was fresh and the batter was not too thick, the wedges were just right, lightly fried on top and soft in the centre. The price was around AUD18.00.

FRIENDLY SERVICE
The service was also tip top. We were attended to by a very friendly and helpful lady who took our orders. All in all, great food and friendly environment. Worth the visit.
