Fortune of War is touted as the oldest pub in Sydney founded in 1878 at 137 George Street in the Rocks section of the Circle Quay of Sydney. It's conveniently located next to the Russell Hotel explaining how we found it. Young locals begin to fill the place throughout the afternoon and by 6PM it becomes very busy and conversations are easy to start. Decor is what one would expect of the oldest pub and the location is a 5 minute walk to the ferry docks make it convenient for commuters. .

We ate in the First Fleet dining room overlooking the Nurses Walk. The herb-batter rich and fat chips were really delicious, especially with Tooey's Stout or James Squire Cider. Friendly if a bit slow service and decent prices.

We went in this "Oldest bar in Sydney" for food three times and it was delicious. The shepherds
Pot pie is an absolute must.. My husband and sister in law had this all three times and i had it twice. The staff were very friendly and pleasant.
There was live music on some nights and was always busy. Will certainly be visiting again next time we,re in oz

During our two days in Sydney we visited The Rocks, and with a little help found "The oldest bar in Sydney." It's a beautiful bar with a lot of early stained glass, iron stools at the bar, a quieter space a little further inside, and at the time we were there (late afternoon/early evening,) it was very quiet and relaxing. The beer was good, and cold, the staff very personable and efficient. I'm a lover of old architecture and really enjoyed the style and atmosphere there.

you can tell this place is so loved by the locals because it is always vibrant with old generation coming to enjoy the beer they had at this bar for years! and new generation learning to become loyal too for years to come! food is also awesome and tends to be always full, specially on saturday night and sundays all day. the place also offers live music and laid back afternoons on Sundays in particular, Love it!
