China Lane has a modern fit out and offers modern somewhat Australianised Chinese food so you don't get the authenticity of Chinatown.
Having said that, we had a great meal. Dishes were well presented, tasty and quick to arrive.
Good range of cocktails and drinks to start the evening and throughout the meal.
We had one vegetarian and they were catered for very well. Top marks here.
Bear in mind that modern also means noisy and as it was full on a Friday night, our group of ten had real trouble hearing each other so a bit of seat hopping ensured as it was a catch up meal with friends.
Décor was dark in the evening but the place is modern, with the quirky Chinese movies playing from the ceiling of the toilets. That sort of place!
Enjoyed the experience.

Great food and good service. One dish returned (very tough beef - the third for the evening apparently). Apart from that, it was delightful.

I visited here last night after finding that a nearby favourite is closed on weekends. We decided to check out the restaurant under the bird cages, and were not disappointed. At first we hesitated, realising it was Chinese and not really in the mood for deep fried chicken and pork....however this is not your standard, run of the mill Chinese. It was incredible. Modern, delicious, filling and perfect in every way. We were advised that as we didn't have a booking, there was a table available outside but was booked for 8pm, which suited us perfectly as we had theatre tickets anyway. We were promptly seated, chose a few cocktails and got to work on the menu. Our waiter was amazing! One of our group is not a fan of chilli, and our waiter was able to advise and suggest some dishes based on this. We ended up with the pork bao without the chilli dressing, pork San Choy Bow and the wagyu beef makkasar. Our food came out fast and fresh, and simply delicious. All three dishes were just beautiful. We decided to have dessert, and all three of us ate the creme caramel. What a way to finish our meal. Would come here again in a heart beat.

In Sydney for work and dining out with a table of six colleagues .. that can be tricky to find somewhere everyone likes. Chinese restaurants tend to be a default for work dinners for both budget and choice. This one thankfully transcends the usual and provides some really interesting dishes whilst delivering the staples well. The service was great, even refining our order to match the number of people and our appetites. My personal favourite was the drunken lamb. Not your usual "view" as such, but loved the birdcages hanging over the lane outside and good to see Sydney trying to get a little bit of Melbourne into its off-street locations. Loved the atmosphere and would be keen to try it with a group of friends next time.

Enjoyed the food - designed to share, it was lovely. The fit out was nice with both indoor and outdoor seating. However, we were very disappointed with the service. The waitress made it her mission to remind us from the beginning of our meal and throughout that we had a 2 hour sitting. We felt incredibly rushed - yet there was a big gap in time between the serving of our entrees and mains. With so many other restaurant options in Sydney, we won't be returning to China Lane. At over $100 per head (with wine), the service requires urgent attention or I can't imagine the restaurant will be around for very long.
