I am fortunate to be a cyclist, and ride from my residence to West Head Lookout & return once or twice per week (80km round trip), and I can vouch for this being one of the best/scenic locations in Sydney.

We parked up perhaps about 2 miles from the actual viewpoint. Then walked through some bush on well trodden paths and saw some old aboriginal carvings, although now well worn. Down to a beach saw a Sea Eagle, then climb back up to the viewpoint.
View is stunning and it was said that this surrounding area is probably what Cook would have seen from his ship when he passed by in the 18th century.
A wonderful panoramic view of the area. Barrenjoey lighthouse, Lion Island and all the way back to Patonga, Umina and Ettalong. Breathtaking views of the entrance to the beautiful ocean. A lovely headland and worth the drive.
We drive to the lookout hoping to do the hour-long walk, but alas the weather gods were agin us. We will visit another time. Great views back to Palm
Beach
Within 1 hour drive from Sydney CBD, the west head lookout offers an amazing view of the west coast. I always loved the place where the ocean meets the mountains, and it was one of such place. Unortunately we were little late reaching the look out, hence missed the opportunity to take some snapshots with enough sunlight. But it'll definitely be in my top 3 destination whenever I visit Sydney.
Best kept secret in Sydney, so will say no more!!
Still won't say more despite prompts from Trip Advisor
